All that Nelly Furtado chat upthread led to me putting this on and it’s absolutely brilliant. Hope it’s next week’s album.

Lots of great songs which I’ve enjoyed immensely over the years. Quite like the whole Yacht Rock thing! 4

Very few famous Dwights though you have Eisenhower, Yorke, Reg Dwight and the Isle of him

My dad’s a huge fan, he loves his blue eyed soul he does, plus the pre super slick stuff from the 70s like Abandoned Luncheonette (no, really, that’s a real title and a real word.) Can’t imagine sheer bloody mindedly wanting to listen to their entire discography but four or five great hits that fit perfectly into their era. They’re fine. 3.

I’m loving these constant curveballs ATM of the least DiSsy acts you can think of and witnessing them hitting the forums like an escaped lion in Great Yarmouth Wetherspoon’s, keep them coming!

Hey

Abandoned Lunchonette is a cracking album , kind of folky soul. Flight of The Conchords clearly have listened to it a lot

Amazing singles, I have a few of the other albums and they are a bit patchy to be honest

Saw them live at Latitude a few years back and they were fucking incredible. Daryl Hall can really fucking sing. Hit after hit. If I ever get to see them again in a non aircraft hanger type venue I will jump at it(they were on the smaller undercover stage at Latitude which was amazing)

Can confidently say (having investigated these 5) that I do not know any Hall and Oates. I thought they were a song factory sort of thing like Stock Aitkin Waterman. Actually surprised to find they were a band. Weird that something apparently ubiquitous has passed me by - maybe because it’s just so anodyne that I didn’t register any of it when I heard it.

Anyway, having listened to those 5 I have no desire ever to hear them, or anything else by H&O again. I’m in a good mood so will abstain rather than slamming the ‘1’.

Giving them a 5 for all the good times.

Let’s do the score!

The playlist is still a thing btw and is here (currently 59+ hours worth)

A low turnout means 3.21 and Hall & Oates slot in between Thin Lizzy and Rihanna.

As a kid I never understood why Dusty was the booby prize. Cool as fuck.

As an adult obviously I know better.

I missed this but they would’ve gotten a 5 from me for the weapons grade pop cheese. Their best songs are clever and fun, both guys are super talented musicians and Daryl’s voice is :ok_hand:

Private Eyes is their best album but also like Voices and X-Static. There’s a bunch of great tracks on all the 70’s and 80’s albums that don’t turn up on the best of’s.

Head Above Water is absolutely glorious! Had Private Eyes on yesterday and it’s just delightfully fun, pure pop. Love them!

Hall & Oates - better than Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd, but not quite as good as Sugababes.
