Not really many singles to speak of so we’ll leave that one for now.

Never knowingly heard a note of IDLES

Oh no.

Massively unsure after my end of year reevaluation.

2, for the sausage hands.

Didn’t mind Brutalism at the time but didn’t give it much more than a passing glance. Didn’t like Joy as an act of resistance. Haven’t bothered with the new one.

Would probably be a 2 if they weren’t on 6music so much, which crosses them to actively annoying and a 1.

5 purely for this t-shirt…

2 because Danny Nedelko is a good tune.

They’ve always been a bit Brewdog and toed that line, but definitely crossed it and gone to the :grimacing: side. Liked Brutalism, Joy was also good, new one pure pony. Very wear their heart on their sleeve which went from endearing to parody.

Find it weird doing contemporary acts on this cause there’s not really any level of assessing the highs and lows of their career - it’ll be current opinion, and they’ve soured pretty much everyone at this point I think

Probably a 3 or 2 like the 1st 2 albums the last one is awful and probably ruins it a lot for me. Still can’t listen to June on Joy, not because it is bad but, fucking hell didn’t need to listen to that after spending a week in the NICU still can’t. The Solomon Burke cover is surprisingly decent.

Im sure they’re a great live band. Saw em first in a tiny venue in Derby without listening to them before and they blew me away.

Don’t really listen to them much now, but it isn’t my type of music really anyway.

Musically it’s a 3, vocally and lyrically it’s a 1. On balance, a generous 2. I really don’t think they’re the harbingers of a new muscal anything, it’s just hype from journalists desperate to write about a band that “encapsulates the anger of Brexit Britain!”. A bit like Gallows, then.

  1. I’ve heard them, they were fine. I’ve not bought into the hype and I’m not sure I’ve listened to a whole album. Whatever I heard never conjured up enough interest to dive deeper.

They’re not as bad as people think they are now, and they weren’t as good as people thought they were twelve months ago.

They’ll get a kicking here but really their only crimes are rushing the last album and being a bit over earnest and gauche - their hearts seem to be in the right place but they’re clumsy and almost completely without nuance (basically a DiS politics thread in musical form safetywink safetywink). Think the albums have been a steady decline in quality since the first. I’ll give them a 3, including the extra point for being from the West Country.

2 points apiece for Brutalism and Joy
Minus 1 point for AFGang and Ultra Mono

Entirely well meaning but ‘outspoken punk band with decent politics’ has devolved into a bit of a parody, as Tuna rightly said

Reckon it’s a 3 from me.
