… And that’s where the comparisons end, for me.

think Sleaford Mods have a decent claim to the post-punk label, as does the second Fontaines album.

think it’s lazy when it’s applied to noisier bands like Idles though

I’m trying to write a response but you’ve actually broken my brain.

Yeah the whole of that song is based on double negatives, it’s still clumsy as fuck but it’s meant as a swipe at people pretending to like things that they actually don’t. Given there’s a line where he says “Listen to more Jungle” on the second album and their overall wokeness I’d be very surprised if it’s meant as an attack on reggae.

God the issulsion has really shattered with this lot huh

The issue for me here is that they the band are so involved with it and supportive of it as well.

Technological determinism is a myth! A goddamn myth!

Sure, but they have been grouped together as a result

So many idles lyrics knocking about in this thread

When they inevitably read this I request £20 for use of this line Ty.

Inordinately praised for ‘wearing their hearts on their sleeves’ but now just considered annoying. Are IDLES the Jurgen Klopp of music?

No. Joe Talbot once saved an Ashley Barnes penalty

oh really well, I didn’t know that. Would put me off too.

Tell me about it. Slayer should be above 4.

Crowd should really ask such questions in a format better suited for engagement than a punk (adjacent) gig tbqh

Most people won’t agree but I do think they’re a band who the best is yet to come from.

Just read the lyrics (Christ) and probably unfair to call it a swipe. Still a bit of a weird inclusion (why don’t you have a job? why don’t you have a degree? why don’t you watch football? … why don’t you like reggae???) which if I’m really stretching might be a nod to some of the punk scene’s weird issues with ska / reggae but yeah, probably clumsy rather than anything else. Fair enough Idles

(I’ve spent way way too much time on this)

I had forgotten how pissed off (I wasn’t that pissed off was probably more mildly bemused) I was last general election that they went quiet during campaigning and on election day.
