nah. Interpol have gotten fairly boring but have yet to reach ‘embarrassing’, let alone releasing The Love Within

i’ve just checked my notes and apparently it is

What they said around Morrissey is more embarrassing than anything Kele could dream up

Yeah so we can’t know if they’re overrated or not

Suspect a lot of people who ranked her so highly have never heard one of her albums the whole way through tbh

his wobbly voice on the first album is quite Ian Curtis i think, plus the dark icy guitars and heavy emphasis on bass

i didn’t fully get the vocal comparison until i first listened to Isolation when i was starting to get into JD

They’re no Editors, that’s for sure!

Giant is a huge huge banger

yeah the centrist dad cop out of excusing touring with Morrissey is shit but i’m not gonna pretend it makes me like their music any less

Yeah Isolation did come to mind actually.

a bit lower profile but i get this with The Dodos as well, Visiter is such a good album but all the more polished follow ups seem to suggest they don’t quite understand what it was that made that album so good

Never really clicked with them. Evil is a tune, but couldn’t really be arsed with the rest of it.

I’ve never understood Evil’s popularity. One of the weakest songs on Antics imo

Editors are such a better band in every way.

Abstaining. Only heard that song about your hands being slow. I think it was called the hands that couldn’t slow down. Got them confused with Editors a lot who I know even less about.

But seriously. Turn on the Bright Lights was one of my favourite and one of the definitive albums of the early 2000s and some cracking singles just after that like Evil. Yet they’ve overstayed their welcome with such mediocrity and running great original ideas into the ground I’m tempted to drop from a high 3 to a low 2. The Rover aside, Marauder is so weak, hookless and inconsequential. But fartdads who only listen to 6 Music and read Q will think it’s the second coming of Christ because Daniel Kessler’s brother said so.

As for supporting Morrissey, I was prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt, well actually have faith (pending they spent much time together on tour) they could detoxify and convert him from his current awful beliefs but nowadays they can’t even make good tunes, never mind good ideologies. 2/5. Oh God, Interpol, how you broke my heart.
