Not normally my kind of thing but I’ve always enjoyed their long commitment to ridiculousness, absolutely in on the joke and I like that. Run To The Hills used to be one of my go tos when I DJed at my old work on a Sunday, always went down well when the crowd from the metal pub down the road came in. 4 out of 5 I think, cause their beer is nice.

Seen them 3 times - first was a benefit gig for their original drummer Clive Burr, and was at the end (I think) of their AMOLAD tour. It was at Brixton Academy and was fucking brilliant.

Saw them on their Final Frontier tour but I was too drunk to remember it.

And saw them at Download in 2013, where they flew a Spitfire right above the crowd before the show. Was another great show and they played Phantom of the Opera there which was fantastic

A 2 for influencing bands I like a lot more, specifically with the whole harmonised-dual-guitar thing. Also for the unintentional comedy value of some of the worst album artwork in history.

I did this too about 5 years ago, it really pissed me off… lost all my friends, they played too much off the newest album and I walked home which took about an hour and a half!

somewhere between 2 and a 3

I saw them live once and they were a lot of fun. Campy and knowing, but clearly all having a great time and obviously tight as hell.

From the records I know they have a lane - which they basically defined, of course - and have resolutely stuck to it. Not necessarily a bad thing but it does feel like there’s not much point in digging deeply into their back-catalogue because it’s basically just loads of versions of the same thing, with some tracks/albums being better executions of that than others.

The other things is that although a lot of their songs seem to be anti-war, all the flag-waving and dressing up in military shit has always made me uncomfortable and to my mind really undermines the message.

Which was further compounded when it turned out that Bruce is a big old brexiteer.

Hmmm.

I think you’ll find they have the distinct honour of having both the best and worst artwork in history

During the Trooper Bruce would dress up by as a Guardsman and come out waving a Union Jack.
It never went down well in Ireland for some reason. :man_shrugging:t2:🤦

I remember Can I Play With Madness from a Guitar Pro magazine or something, nearly learned how to play it. That’s a fun track

Yeah this was really disappointing. He’s done some good stuff in the past (that gig in Sarajevo while it was under siege, flew people out of Lebanon during a conflict) but he’s always come off as a bit of a loudmouth muppet at times, and the stuff he said about Brexit was truly moronic.

Saw them at a festival once, and would give them 5/5 for that performance. Not listened to any albums though, so abstaining.

One of the stupidest and worst bands of all time. Absolutely naff

Sharon Osbourne hates him though so that’s got to be a plus?

I’ve given them a 4 because :metal:t2:but i really can’t be bothered with Maiden. I like Trooper, but cannot stand a number of their other songs.
