Too technically good for me to really connect emotionally - I prefer my singers to be a little cracked, but he was meant to be terrific live.
Can totally see why some folk might not be into it and I need to be in the mood, otherwise his warbling can grate, but in the right moment some of his songs are grand. Think a 3.5 is about right.

Grace (and Mystery White Boy and Live At Olympic) is amazing. Was really really into him in my late teens.

I have tried many times over the years to like Grace, but I bounce off it every single time. I don’t like his voice (recognise that it’s technically good, but it just doesn’t do it for me), and the music is bland 90s corporate alternarock. Honestly an artist where I just don’t get what the fuss is about.

His good songs are incredible but his not so good songs can be a bit annoying. Gone for 3.5 rounded up to 4 cos his highs are very high
there’s some proper amazing guitar and drum bits on Grace which still give me goosebumps
