It’s amazing that his whole career he’s been trying to get away from the perception of him being “just a producer” when that’s where his absolutely monumental genius really lies. His own writing has never been amazing but it’s gone spectacularly naff on some recent stuff.

Part of the thrill of Kanye though is the juxtaposition between the sublime and the ridiculous. Take Blood on the Leaves - imagine having the mindset that allows you to take that Nina sample of Strange Fruit and mix it with banging TNGHT horns on a song that’s ultimately about paranoia of facing the consequences for cheating? It’s sick, it’s twisted, and amazing.

I’ve always had a lot of time for Kanye as I would never say I like rap music but I’ve always loved Kanye since college dropout. It was the first CD I got for my car and would listen to it over and over. Then I kind of stuck with him for a bit and then just didn’t bother but still liked every single. Then MBDTF BLEW MY MIND. I fucking loved it and still do. I really liked the life of pablo too and still listen to that sometimes but haven’t caught up on anything else.

Now we can’t talk Kanye without Kim K and in this latest season of the kardashians, Kanye is now part of the little interviews they do and he’s never been before. Turns out, he’s actually quite normal and his erratic behavior can sometimes be pushed on by her a bit. He’s really chill and easy going and she’s pushing him sometimes to have strong opinions when he doesn’t really want to and just wants to love everyone.
Sad about his mum. I liked the jay z and kanye channel 4 doc thing that was on over xmas.

anyway 5/5. He’s still a genius imo.

Yup. Utterly, utterly fascinating. He can’t plead ignorance because it comes on the same record as New Slaves which is every bit as socially-conscious and insightful as any of his earlier stuff. It’s so much more interesting that he seems to genuinely think there’s some sort of parallel to be found there than it is to just dismiss it as being a dickhead.

never understood why he got so popular. tried listening to some of his records after they were reviewed well, but I just don’t get it at all. really dislike the production on everything I hear of his, has an annoying voice, quite an irritating personality outside of his music.
