It starts off slow, but the second half of the album’s pretty strong and the songs are much better live

(sorry)

I’m sure I’d feel the same way about King of Leon if I were subjected that that, for sure

I hate it when Noel Fielding has a kings of Leon cd in the milky joe episode

went for a 2 because the first three albums are great but then got so, so, shit after that. Surprised people look down on Because of the Times, it was a bit of a depature and move to what they would become but its got some absolute belters on there. I mean ffs, even if itis by their own admission a Pixies tribue, CHARMER!

I also really, really love King of the Rodeo, think it often gets overlooked:

think both songs display their bassist and drummer had some really interesting interplay that didn’t exist with a lot of bands of the time.

@anon19035908 are we gonna do Biffy Clyro? Think they’d be a hilarious thread but also had a similar trajectory to Kings of Leon at around the same time

It’s a really great book. Author clearly loves the music but because it’s interviews it’s not reverential about it. Really decent read.

Nah, U2 and The Who will be first.

Saw KoL support Pixies in 2005 I want to say. They were quite shit compared to the other support, Teenage Fanclub.

Never really bought them as a good band, though my friends were bang into them. Kept getting asked to play covers of their songs in bands I was in, kept refusing.

All fine and fairly ignorable until that absolute shitshow of an album with ‘Sex On Fire’ on it. I must find my review I wrote about it for my college paper, tore it to shreds.

1/5, shit band, no songs, fuck off.

Torturous. Didn’t help that the manager (who was OBSESSED by them) insisted on playing each record on repeat, one a day for about two months solid.

theres a story in Meet Me in the Bathroom where KoL and Interpol are staying in the same hotel (might be an NME tour or somethign) and carlos d says to them arent you the band from Almost Famous? and one of KoL calls him a vampire looking motherfucker. anyway it proper made me laugh when i was reading it, but is the only time KoL have made me feel any emotion. the worst band that people used to love
