Sheās had a good run but nah itās Kendrick or Beyonce
Haha, sorry, not one of my finer efforts!
Sheās am odd one, an outlier, I dint love everything she does but Iām glad she exists?
Difficult one to score. Sheād passed me by until NFR, which I listen to loads and really enjoy. Iām going with a 4 - she deserves it for NFR and itās on me (not her) that Iāve not got into her earlier records yet.
I think she is marvellous 5/5. Nfr is a stone cold classic.
Also, I love the production on NFR. The wooziness of it all. Reminds me a lot of From A Basement⦠by Elliott Smith.
I would be really interested to know how you got on with Born To Die, because my hunch is that it would be quite hard to get into if you know her later work is like NFRā¦
hope thereās a Bianca del Rio thread soon
Iāve got a longish car journey later so I might have a listen. Would you recommend that as the next one to listen to?
Might give her a 5 for that top in the picture alone
I actually honestly did consider adding 1 for her terrific trolling on naming so many of her songs after existing famous ones but her shenanigans this year responding to the claims about glorifying violence and the video of looters, and (farther back) getting weird and claiming she was being sued by Radiohead when she knew she was getting sued by a publishing company just make me take against her as a person.
Used to be a fan but fuck him after the stuff with Paige
I think so, itās what made her famous and itās a really interesting comparison - her style hasnāt changed that drastically across albums really, the gulf is biggest between BTD and NFR. The former is way poppier and trashier (Off To The Races!!!). Would definitely be good to hear how you get on with it.
The Paradise Edition is a double album with Ride on Disc 2 so maybe try that!
Youāve ruined Christmas
Would love to see her doing Norman Rockwell live. Hopefully she does a tour before her next album comes out (or her next album is better)
That makes sense. Tbh sheās one of the artists I like where I absolutely understand why she would get 1/5s, not just personally but musically.
no idea and donāt think iāve ever heard a song but i do like to see performers with fags in their hand so may whip out a 5
Weird middle ground for me where I never got caught up in the hype of
Born to Die, and never fell properly for NFR, but still enjoy a lot of her stuff. A 3 Verging on a 4
Also, as much as her reactions to the comments were total trash, I also remember thinking that the initial ones about glamourising violence were just crap, and really didnāt allow for any leeway for the character study aspect of being a song writer. Maybe Iād be way off if I went to look back at them now, but at the time I remember thinking she was right to hit back (even if she chose a shit way to do so)
Fuck, I forgot how much I genuinely love National Anthem (despite the annoying lispy ākiss kissā bits), Radio and Blue Jeans
Has been spotted in my local Co-op, 5/5
