I fancy throwing some big opinions about My Chemical Romance being better than Queen around if anyone fancies a bite?

This has reminded to listen to the new Pearl Jam album, thanks Lizzo, 5

I’m going to listen to lizzobangers for the first time, maybe we can get some lizzochat back on, like ‘seems decent based on one listen’ maybe

Enjoyed the lizzo glastonbury on the telly but not as much as my mid 50s borther and his wife. Interesting crossover appeal she’s got. Seems like a good egg but not really familiar enough with her music, so I’ll abstain.

The Black Parade is good

Sorry for the delay in replying- life intervened.

It’s an interesting debate certainly and you’re right that the definition of a ‘classic album’ changes over time. What I do think is that such albums almost always need a certain seriousness of purpose - that’s certainly present in most of those you mention (definitely in people like Kendrick, Solange, Frank Ocean etc).

A ‘pop’ album with four or five massive singles and some filler is probably far more financially lucrative but has a different set of aims. I’m not saying either one or the other is more worthy or valid, but I think they are still different.

Just checked and I’m afraid it’s, in fact, shite.

yeah, I get you. I don’t really get Lorde beyond a couple of songs for instance though but it is still considered a recent pop classic. Lizzo will do what she pleases but she certainly has the potential and songwriting prowess to create something considered a modern classic in similar-ish regard. As @lastdino put so eloquently, it’s sometimes about connecting with a whole range of people in a meaningful way that creates something truly meaningful and “classic” with or without the traditional sense of the word and why I caveated my example as “according to critics but you don’t have to take this as gospel, it’s just an example!”
