Like seriously, there’s no arguing with Madonna’s greatness. I never liked her (except Like A Prayer obviously) when I was young cause I started listening to music right around her weakest run (Ray of Light/American Life/Music) but she won me over with Confessions on a Dancefloor and since then I’ve discovered her early stuff and it’s so great. Like A Prayer is legit one of the greatest songs of all time but then there’s tracks like Crazy For You, Erotica, Frozen, Into The Groove and oh my god Papa Don’t Preach.
I know who I’m listening to at work today aaaaaaaaaaaa
I used to listen to Capital Radio a lot around when she first broke (I know, I know, I was young and my dad used it for traffic news when he drove so I just figured it was the station you listened to) because I’d finally been given a cassette/radio thing for my birthday. I just recall how much she dominated and had what seemed like half the songs in their top 10. And they were all so great.
I was going to vote 3 cause there’s a lot of dross in there but then as I was posting the poll I realised that there are a LOT of 5/5 bangers on that list so bumped it up to a 4. American Life is still pretty unforgivable.
Desperately Seeking Susan is good (or was from what I remember of seeing it around the time). And in fact I watched Shanghai Surprise on YouTube the other day because How Did This Get Made did an episode on it and she’s fine. The film is total shit but she’s great.
Currently going through all of Madonna’s albums and keeping the tracks I like for a mega Madonna playlist. Haven’t listened to all of her albums all the way through yet so lots more to discover.
I adored Ray of Light and Music as a kid, Ray of Light is still fantastic (still like some of Music but it’s patchy let’s face it)
