You’ve definitely made these songs up.

My sister brought me back Madonna’s Like A Virgin and Prince’s Purple Rain from a school exchange trip to Germany. What a present! I suppose it was to stop me borrowing her records all the time.
It started off a long term obsession with both.

I reckon it’s easy to underestimate now the impact she had on culture.
The great pop songs, the videos, the shock tactics, the way she used her brain, body and image when women weren’t supposed to be powerful in the industry, the support of the gay community, the vocal support of people with AIDs and HIV when they were being treated like a stain on society, the huge shows, the documentary, the Sex book.

I’m happy to pretend that the later records don’t really exist, but the amount of great singles is astonishing.
More great singles than Jackson or Bowie IMO

  1. Papa Don’t Preach
  2. Sorry (PSB Maxi mix)
  3. Into the Groove
  4. Justify My Love
  5. Drowned World/Substitute For Love

Gave Madonna a 2. Some good tunes but her desperate need for publicity and attention at times (i.e. that Sex book, kissing Britney and Christina at some awards show) really throws me off.

Goonies “R” Good Enough

Like a cat is really good - it has some synth sounds (maybe) that sounds a bit like a cats meow

Guys, stop making up songs.

Cant think about like a prayer without thinking of that Scottish wrestler who uses it as his entrance music

Think it’s where the chord rings out for a whole bar before changing to a different chord.

It’s a 3 - the exact average of her score for the stone cold bangers and the utter bilge.

Purveyor of some of the best pop music ever made, especially by a white woman. That list up there is tune after tune that I find it quite hard not to dance to.

And she pissed off loads of christian nutters by having a black Jesus in the Like A Prayer video.

Also gets extra points for having played The Hacienda before any of the indie kids had heard of it.
