Oh come on…there’s no way in this world that Mezzanine is better than Blue Lines!

Outside of the albums, was always a “massive” fan of this banger from the Blade II soundtrack:

The Hymn of the Big Wheel?

They seem like a GBOL as well politically etc.

Now I’ve said that someone’s clearly going to bring some sort of awful revelation about them into the thread aren’t they?

I’ll give them a 3 thank you very much

I’ve got that on vinyl and I always used to get people asking about it if I played it when DJing.

Really difficult to separate for me (pitchfork 9.2 against 9.0 or something like that).

I just think that Mezzanine is the slightly better album as a whole (as opposed to Blue Lines which feels more like a collection of really good songs).

Yeah they’re pretty sound I think. RDN is quite active in pro-Palestinian and anti-fash stuff I think.

Not a single.

Fucks sake I’m giving them a 3 but I’m preparing to be mildly irked when they end up above kanye

Blue Lines is one of my favourites of all time, so I guess I’m biased there.

Wha? Wassis?

Bruno Brooks played it on the chart and everything!

They’re better than Portishead, so I’d like to think they’d come out ahead of them?

Easy 5 for me. Admittedly a little patchy in the 21st century, but then again Blue Lines is very possibly the greatest album ever recorded by a UK act, so impossible not to give them top marks. Protection / No Protection and Mezzanine are also really good records, and I reckon Heligoland is very underrated.

But where are the Mad Professor mixes of Mezzanine that were supposed to be out last year?

Here’s my best scorching critiques to get us going:

. Wish trip hop stuff would learn how to use a snare drum properly instead of this weak and puny side stick stuff.

. Fandom seem a bit gap yahr and ooo I take a lot of drugs

. Shit name

absolutely loved them when I was younger, haven’t listened to them for ages but they have to get a 4 just for being really great (even some of the post-mezzanine stuff is decent). Seeing them at Bestival absolutely blew my mind, they sounded huge.

Ok. It is a fucking tune tbf.

Has to be Unfinished Sympathy but I also fucking LOVE Safe from Harm. One of my fave album openers.

Can’t think of any that I’d skip. Never mind, I guess it’s just down to which I’ve listened to the most.

Can’t argue with that.
