Who are some people you’d like to see in future threads please Ant?

Oh I don’t know Funker, I trust your judgement. Mostly the people I like would be really short threads I think

It’s a 5 from me, Bat Out Of Hell is a brilliant song, it’s like all the best bits of Springsteen, Queen and Weezer rolled into one.

Also my kids fucking love bat out of hell and it’s frequently used to help use up excess energy at the end of the day.

Not when Meat Loaf did it, it wasn’t

Because generally it’s not the kinda thing i’m into and because i find elements of it corny, dated and generally a bit naff. I can’t deny some of the melodies though!

Yep, maggie has totally nailed it for me too. There’s something about Meat Loaf where stuff i’d consider terrible becomes brilliant (but only in the right context and at a very specific time). Struggling to think of another artist i like in quite the same way.

Oh, I haven’t heard that. I think my life will be better for avoiding it

Bat Out of Hell II was the first album I ever owned, and for a while it was the only album I owned. Reckon I still know every single word to every single song. It’s utterly perfect. First album is a banger too (the title track is one of the all-time classic songs ever written), Dead Ringer is no too bad and Hits Out Of Hell collects lots of the good stuff from elsewhere. Much of the rest is poor to dreck, so I can’t in good conscience give him a 5, but for all the pleasure the two BooH albums have given (and still give) me in life it’s a strong 4.

PS. all that “oh, you can’t possibly actually like (artist x), you’re voting ironically” shite can get in the fucking sea.

Here’s a relatively unknown banger. A Jim Steinman cover, but he wasn’t working with Steinman at the time. Fantastic song:

If this was How Good Are They Really: Jim Steinman it’s an unquestionable and immediate 5 because that guy is a maniac and I love to see it. Love the fact that ‘Bad for Good’ was written for Meat Loaf as the follow up to Bat Out of Hell but Meal Loaf lost his voice and Steinman just went ‘fuck it’ and sang most of it himself instead of waiting a couple of years.

So I have to accept there’s a fair amount of Meat Loaf where Steinman is not involved so it has to drop to a 4.

Love the idea Steinman and Meat Loaf going into the studio and brushing aside ‘best music we can make’ to ‘the biggest and most ridiculous music we can make’ and then accidentally realising they’ve achieved both.
