Listening again this morning is say that there’s a good argument that while MoP isn’t the best Thrash album of all time (reign in blood) it might just be the best metal album of all time.

For 3 different bands, that sound so different, but offer something collectively so influential and genre breaking in the space of a year, 1986-1987 remains one of the best musical memories for me.

Reign In Blood (Slayer) is the best in my opinion, but Master of Puppets (Metallica) and Among The Living (Anthrax) are very close. These records along with the rise of Public Enemy and initial success of the Beastie Boys, such a melting pot of creativity then. Lit things up.

Anthrax really don’t get the credit they deserve. Among to Persistence is a 3 album run that only Metallica can match.

Peace Sells is missing from this list!

By far the most fun out of the big 4

Not quite in the same league for me but all good.

I would add Reign In Blood does top all of them albums by some distance (again just my take on it).

I do think Master of Puppets and Reign in Blood are better than Peace Sells, but would say it’s somewhere on a par with Among the Living at least.

Also for me Wake Up Dead is easily one of the best songs on all 4 records

It’s actually “Black Sabbath” and has been for 50 years.

First band I ever saw live was Anthrax on the Persistence Of Time tour. So much fun.

Loved the Attack Of The Killer B’s compilation from around that time also (featuring, among others, their Bring The Noise collaboration with Public Enemy - the best rap/metal track by miles).

Quite liked POT follow up The Sound Of White Noise album they made with John Bush on vocals, although it felt a bit like a different band tbf…

Been absolutely rinsing
Master of puppets the last twelve months and indeed it was my listening club choice tonight with my guys. Impeccable, pure thrash.
