Her cover of who knows where the time goes is jaw droppingly good

5/5. This is my favourite vocal performance of all time;

(The bit from 1:45-2:15 especially)

Love Me or Leave Me is missing from that Greatest Hits list. The one with a Bach style piano solo in the middle. A reminder that Nina always wanted to be a concerto pianist.

It’s like trying to do HGATR Mozart or Beethoven. Although I listen to a lot more Nina Simone.

I don’t think I have anything to say about Nina Simone. I’m sorry. Will abstain from this one for the time being, but plan to do a bit of a deep dive later.

If there was a fire in the building that holds all music, and only one person’s back catalogue could be saved from it, it should probably be Nina Simone’s.

Sometimes do some mixes, and it always stands out if you play a Nina Simone track just how much better she was than whoever you played immediately before and afterwards, regardless of who else it was you played.

I just checked and Nina Simone is not on the list of artists who lost all their master recordings,

No album poll Funkdawg? Must admit I only know her singles/hits so would love to know where to go next

Don’t know loads about her to be fair but she has some bangers. Pretty fucking punk

I always knew she was good, but didn’t realise quite how good until I bought the Phillips box set for my partner’s birthday a couple of years ago. This album in particular is astonishing:

Clear 5 - an astonishingly talented musician and singer, an underrated songwriter and a fearless crusader against racism, sexism and various other types of bullshit. We could do with more like her.

She had her demons and was a complex an difficult person but it’s very hard to say how much of that was a direct result of the stuff she had to put up with in her life. I think a lot of that was a kind of shell she used to survive the problems the world threw her way.

Lots of my favourite tracks have been posted already, but not these I don’t think
