5/5.

A classic Pervo long post will be dropping late afternoon/early evening. It will feature tween proto-feminism, cultural appropriation, teen fiction and astrology.

My No Doubt story is that at work I got ahead of Tragic Kingdom way before the UK release and sold probably hundreds of import copies to the kids of Portsmouth before it was even out over here. Maybe a generous 3 for the band because those are some pretty nifty singles tbf, but I’m giving myself a 5 for being a goddam music retail genius.

Got a lot of time for Gwen and what she stood for but their music was bloody awful

The awful ska punk earlier stuff to the Hella Good stuff. Almost uniformly rubbish

Just a Girl is a great song but it’a such an outlier

1/5. Awful band. Gwen seems sound I guess.

Her solo stuff is lightyears ahead of No Doubt imo.

The bass player was born in Kingsbury, my home town, so for that its a 2

Spiderwebs is an absolute jam. Obsene amount of banging singles on Tragic Kingdom, the album tracks seem like absolute filler alongside.

Gwen Stefani’s brother was an animator for the early seasons of the Simpsons

we doing the band or the solo career?

Which one does it say in the thread title?

Saw them at Glastonbury in 2002 - was a lot of fun. Quite enjoyed Rock Steady from that period also.

I’m giving them a 4 :+1:

I’m going with a 3, might up to a 4. Tragic Kingdom and Return Of Saturn are good albums and the singles from that time are 5/5. I know you’ve heard it a billion times but Don’t Speak is a perfect pop ballad up there with the best of all time. From Rock Steady onwards though I really went off them and hated everything I heard since. Fuck it, they can have a 4 for Excuse Me Mr, Just A Girl, Don’t Speak and Bathwater.

Gwen Stefani could sometimes be found in and around the pubs and bars of the town I went to school in. I have no anecdotes about this, it’s just a simple statement of fact.
