Can’t think of a band I dislike more. Glad they’re taking a lot of flack here as I thought people thought quite highly of them off the back of the Supsersonic film and that a bit of attitude makes a good band.

I cannot fucking stand Noel Gallagher.

1/5. I’d have given them 0 if there was an option.

Noel is very funny and great at winding people up, i’m a big fan of his interviews usually. feel like he’s said some more shite Tory things lately though but can’t really remember.

Has he been invited to play Glastonbury since that comment? Actually I don’t think he is played it since 2004?

Never my thing at the time. Was too ensconced in other music - I just found them boring and hated the fans. Music for people who didn’t like music. Also hated that some of my mates seemed to be abandoning jungle and hip hop music to start listening to (what I considered to be) tripe.

Having said that, one of my big life regrets is not going to Knebworth, as loads of my mates went and I obviously turned my nose up at it. Sounded hilarious and wish I’d been there.

Now I’ve gotten over myself, I will admit that I do quite like a good few tracks of theirs.

2 on 5. But a closer to 1 than 3.

Always remember someone saying Noel should stop making music and just do interviews as they’re more entertaining.

I enjoyed them at times. remember the early singles being played on MTV lots back in the day etc. think I always knew they were just ok, though. This wasn’t helped by the other people in my year who wanted to be in a band wanting to play mostly Oasis covers (and anything they’d covered…) basically meant that If I wanted to play live I had to play bass for them. Had some fun, but there’s only so many times (1) you can listen to Stand By Me without wanting to start smashing things, so playing all ten fucking minutes of it over and over again, was exactly how you’d expect it to be. Think our old drummer is still in an Oasis covers band.

Tried listening to Definitely Maybe a few years ago and it was pretty bland. dull songs, loud guitars and little else for the most part. keep wanting to give WTSMG another go, but can’t bring myself to do it. Think I liked Cast No Shadow though.

I can’t even remember what I scored them, I’m so bored thinking about them. Going to do some work now.

Deeply dislike oasis but when don’t look back in anger comes on towards the end of a wedding disco it’s always great

Also, despite giving them a four off the back of their latter material, there’s actually some really good stuff on each album post-MG, they just had zero quality control which led to some of the worst songs ever recorded being included. You could make a really stellar album from the best three tracks of each of their noughties albums.

I hate them more than any other band :+1:

Although this thread does provide an opportunity to post Steve Albini’s bang on the money take…

SA: We were on tour in England when that album was released and we made it to number two in the Indie Chart. What surprised me was that number one was a band called Oasis who I was unfamiliar with because I was an American and Americans didn’t know anything about Oasis. While we were on tour, I saw a television interview with one of the brothers in Oasis. I don’t know which one. He was going on about how if he was a kid and he heard this band Oasis, they would be his favourite fucking band. They were so fucking exciting, he couldn’t believe how fucking incredible this band was. He was in the best fucking band there ever was and if he wasn’t in the band then Oasis would be his favourite band because they were so far ahead of everybody else and so much more powerful and exciting. I thought, ā€œFuck. If a dude in the band is going off about how they blow him away, I really want to hear this band.ā€

Then they followed that interview with filmed footage of that band playing a bunch of songs in concert for twenty minutes or something and I’ll assume you know what Oasis sounds like. It was fucking horrible. It’s just the most trivial, whiny reiteration of the lowest denominator of English rock and pop clichĆ©s. Don’t get me wrong, bearing in mind my profession, I have heard worse music. But the dissonance between this guy’s enthusiasm for the band that he was describing in the interview, which sounded like a band I would fucking love, and then the actual [starts impersonating the signature Gallagher vocal bleat] ā€œaah-eee-yaaaahā€ of it. The dissonance was just stunning. It was like a guy talking about how impressive this bodybuilder was and then out trots a toddler infant.

All of the band were writing songs by that point, despite most of the band being terrible songwriters.

Realised I always thought of Oasis as a very popular indie guitar band but they sold Adele levels of records. I think artists like that need to be considered in a slightly different way as they did have a significant cultural impact.

If they reformed they’d sell out stadia easily wouldn’t they.

I voted a 4. First two albums are bangers. So is the b side compilation.

Obviously went on too long and released a bunch of dross, but that doesn’t matter because The Cure are near the top.

Dig Out Your Soul was quite good last time I listened to it.

I have mostly avoided voting in the HGATR for bands I don’t like, mainly because I don’t feel I know them enough to comment or because I don’t feel like poisoning the well if they just aren’t my cup of tea. But not oasis. Fuck oasis. I hate oasis so much.

Didn’t Brett Anderson distance himself from that cover really quickly and it makes him cringe now?
