One of those bands I really bought into early. I guess it was around the time when you wanted to make sure that if a band turned out to be the next big thing you were there first. Proper indie student prick behaviour, basically.

That said, I really did enjoy Mosley Shoals a lot. Not really for me now although much like Stanley Road, I bet I’d enjoy the big songs if I put it on again.

Got to see them twice too. Once at an instore at the Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street and once back in Manchester supporting Oasis at Maine Road.

Reckon 100 Mile High City is my favourite track by them.

Edit: given them a generous 3.

I couldn’t press 1 quick enough. They had a decade or so of being on every festival line up, as a result I’ve saw them loads of times and never enjoyed it. They have a reputation for being terrible and absolutely live up to it.

The 1ist of 1s ever to dad rock bore its way to a 1.

A 1 all day and every day. Even as a complete Britpop apologist, I cannot give them any credit whatsoever. Always hated them.

Moseley Shoals is a very good album. Don’t be too insecure to admit it.

Obviously they weren’t reinventing the wheel or anything and wore their influences pretty clearly, but as a record that’s towards the very top end of MOR stuff.

I’ve voted 5 just to counter all the 1s from the babies, but wouldn’t surprise me if these guys ended up towards the very bottom of the list.

They weren’t even good when they were trying to fit into the baggy / shoegaze scene.

Think it’s the older farts among us that are voting 1. Proud to do so. If ever a band deserved to be labelled ‘Britpop’ then it was this lot.

Once saw them with Paul Weller supporting and Roy Wood rocked up. They were still shit. Nah, there was a britpop period where i did get something from them but jesus, glad that spell didn’t last long. In my head they have a couple of bangers but they don’t do they? They just don’t stand up at all. One of many bad, backwards looking uninspired guitar bands from this spell who made it massive thanks to chris evans rather than being good

Steve Craddock worked in my local record shop for a while also. No good anecdotes though im afraid.

Too dull for Britpop. Like Oasis with the edges shaved off. Will still find myself humming along to Day We Caught The Train if it comes on, but will instantly feel disappointed in myself.

Totally inescapable for a few years. Always found myself very very very bored by them. Dunno if repellant enough for a 1.

The sound of drinking metz and smirnoff mule in shit pubs before going to terrible nightclubs.

5/5, proper songs, proper riverboats, a great bunch of trains.

Their guitarist is doing really well for himself these days with the Biffy live gig

Gonna slap a 5/5 on this one I reckon. Moseley Shoals and most of Marchin’ Already are really good and they are in no way deserving of their reputation, despite going a bit dull after the first few records, but that’s not really a huge crime and there are far, far worse turns on this list. Good fun live too and Steve Craddock lives near me and is a nice lad.

Absolutely knew you’d be on the right side of this one, big man.

Won’t vote as I’ve only ever heard the first two songs on that compilation list. Was a student at the time of the first 2 albums but somehow avoided them. All the other cliche student albums of the time yes but not these.
