Beepy shite. Neither a guitar or a proper hair cut in sight.

Not really.

  1. Will post when I get out of bed.

This is missing the Brown album, doesn’t help when they call their first two albums the same title, too late to edit this poll?

Fucking Wikipedia! Yeah won’t let me edit.

They’re a 4/5 for me.

Not a huge fan or have much knowledge of their genre but do like Orbital and a massive fan of In Sides. Chime and The Box are my favourite tracks.

I’ve fond/hazy memories of Orbital at Ally Pally on New Year’s Eve in 1996. Saw them again for the second time a few years ago at Shepherds Bush Empire. Great both times.

Detailed post later. 5 all day long. Halcyon and The Box are literally perfect - with the sheer amount of time I’ve spent studying the Box in an attempt to replicate it you would think I’d never want to hear it again, but I still get the chills every time.

I think they’re very good. Always my favourite of that early nineties wave of album based dance music that appealed to indie kids. I’m really torn between the brown album and In Sides for best album. They are both stuffed full of bangers. They also pulled off a decent comeback with Wonky (and then not such a decent one with Monsters Exist). 5/5

Also caused a big argument with my dad years ago when I suggested he get the first album for my brothers birthday present. “It’s the green one”, I said. A sickly green, right enough, but definitely green. He came back from the Virgin Megastore with the right one, but insisted the cover was yellow. I did not back down, and things escalated. I would be interested to know readers’ opinions on the colour scheme

LOVE them. Cause I’m old fashioned I love that they’re a proper albums band. Blindingly good live as well, in fact one of the best things I’ve ever seen. In Sides is so good but also have a soft spot for Middle of Nowhere.

Nothing Left is their best tune.

The Box is so cinematic. Makes me think of a scene in a soy thriller where a submarine is setting forth at twilight and slowly dropping the waves. Don’t know why, but it always has, when I listen I can vividly see white foam on a grey sea against the hull, and then a distance aerial shot as it heads out

Actual video has no submarines in at all

Always referred to it as ‘the green album’.

You have excellent eyes

Remember being genuinely creeped out by the combo of this tune and video. Whenever I hear the intro, I still get the shivers.

Think I saw the video when it first came out - we had just got sky and I remember some VJ breathlessly gushing about how it was the greatest thing ever. Remember being slightly creeped out by the stop motion human in the funny hat (I was 9, maybe?)

Retrospectively it is probably one of my favourite videos by anyone, not that music videos seem to be so much of a thing anymore mind

Bit torn on this one.

Really listened to and liked Snivilisation a lot at the time, didn’t have access to the earlier albums and although I bought In Sides and liked it I think I had kind of moved on and didn’t really need another album.

Ended up selling my albums as I really didn’t think they’d held up. Maybe I’d just overplayed them or just related them to too specific a point in my life.

Probably a generous 3 but it’s 2 excluding the nostalgia factor.

It’s brown.

Snivilisation, Insides & The Middle of Nowhere are pretty much perfect in every way.

Have a lot or time for Paul Hartnolls collaboration album from 2007 - The Ideal Condition - listening to it now for the first time in a long time and it’s really great.

still causing confusion to this day! I’m talking about the first album, not the second

Definite 5 for me.

I have a particular love for In Sides which was the first album I ever bought purely for the album art - I had never heard - or even heard of - Orbital, wouldn’t even really have heard anything like it before, but the cover art appealed to me at age 14 and there was something genuinely exciting about buying an album that was totally mysterious. I’d only have bought Britpop and Beatles albums before that.

That album has gone on to be an all time favourite. The Brown album comes a close 2nd, but the thrill of discovering something so utterly immersive and ultimately formative in terms of setting my music tastes for the future on a blind luck gamble with my limited pocket money is something I won’t experience again!
