I think people default to very lazy criticism of music. “I don’t like it” = “It’s shit”

Listening club threads have shown that this doesn’t have to be the case though.

There’s probably a “where to start with the Wu-Tang Clan” thread to be started (I haven’t a clue)

Nah they should stop really, makes me want to give up listening to all music in protest

Yeah in defence of the lovely Funkhouser I have really enjoyed these threads and, as mentioned above, they’ve provided lovely reminder to re-listen to some of the finest music written. So I’m all for them.

There are certain sources of anger and bewilderment but I’m trying as much as possible to just let them be and focus on the many positives of these threads

I’m also aware that @Scunner’s criticism may well just be a hatchet job on a rival brand

I did think after the Kate Bush one about whether it was worth continuing. I think they are though, it’s only a bit of fun after all, just need to stay on track and allow others to have opinions. Jordo’s post above is a great example of how you can explain why you don’t like something constructively, and in a way that encourages healthy debate.

Don’t see the issue with them. Bands I like it’s a prompt to chat and listen to them again. Bands I don’t I’ll vote, maybe listen to some of the stuff I’ve not heard before that gets posted in the thread, and leave everyone to it

I’m going to try to follow that ethos but I know I’m going to struggle to not go full Bam when T Swizzle gets her own HGATR

If there was someone I didn’t like and had proper #opinions about rather than just not really liking nirvana or Bob marley’s music, I’d probs get involved tbh

If you stop me on the street and ask me, “Hey Tone, what’s currently stuck in your head?” there’s a fairly decent chance (let’s say 1/5) that it will be the motif from this

This is an odd reaction to consensus opinions. If people were slating your favourite stuff I can understand how that’d get your back up (this is why I stay the hell out of the film threads as the DiS consensus often seems bonkers to me) but when you’re the one doing the slating…I dunno Bam, seems a strange thing to get mad about. “Stop enjoying things I don’t enjoy!” is seldom a good place to find yourself.

Beyond Bam’s mindless trolling and people biting, are people actually get angry in these threads?
