But more importantly, well done on getting this to 400! It’s hard to think what the boards would be like without them. Good one funky :muscle:

Yup, don’t know em at all. Not even sure I could have truthfully told you there was a band called Phoenix prior to this.

They’re French and something to do with Daft Punk? That’s the extent of my knowledge, I’ll abstain.

I think Phoenix are amazing, so many great songs, listened to everything up to and including Wolfgang a lot, but then found everything after a bit deflating.

Wolfgang Amadeus is an absolutely great album and still holds up. Couple of good songs here and there on the others (if i ever feel better etc). Overall it’s probably a 3 but i’ll bump them to a 4 up for wap

Wolfgang was a hook laden romp that suffered a bit from overexposure.

Never felt the urge to explore further.

Listening to Wolfgang Amadeus now.

Just assumed from the name they’d be some 70s US proggers but instead it’s more like Modest Mouse or Wolf Parade.

Wet Ass Phoenix

WAP is the classic obviously but I spend way more time with the last record, Ti Amo, these days. It’s brilliant.

Every now and again, I get the urge to stick Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix on, and I am never disappointed. Quality album. I seem to remember Bankrupt and Ti Amo having their moments, but it’s been a while since I’ve revisited them.

Only found out recently (on one of those TOTP Story Of… shows) that they were Air’s backing band for TV appearances during the 90s.

Gone with a 3, but feel like WAP could actually bump them to a 4.

Listening to Pheonix again, and my god they have SO many good songs.

Here’s an anecdote about them because people like those in these threads.

An ex of mine who I hadn’t been with very long surprised me by getting tickets to see them at the Roundhouse on the Wet Ass Pussy tour. I didn’t know them that well at the time, but had liked what I’d heard. I listened to all their albums up to that point and properly fell in love with them, but it was only like a week and a half before the gig. We went to see them and they were magnificent live, better than I’d expected and I got so into it, I started doing that thing where you kinda move your mouth a bit along with it all because you want to know the words but you don’t (other than maybe one line in a chorus). At the end of the set, my ex said “I had no idea you liked them so much, you knew pretty much every word”. Rather than admit the embarrassing “I was just moving my mouth in the shape of what I wanted the words to be” I just said “yeah, I’ve been listening to them a lot lately” which technically isn’t a lie, but is deception.

Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is a superbly bad name for an album

The first album is a bit patchy, but the good on it is absolutely great. Then the 3 albums after that are just stuffed with so many great songs. I absolutely adored them during that run, and they were great live. Ridiculously tight band.

But Bankrupt felt oddly lacking for me, I found it boring and it just never clicked with me. Ti Amo even more so. They went more synthy, upped the autotune and I completely lost interest. It’s such a shame, because Alphabetical to WAP is a phenomenal run. And for that they get a 4 from me.

Only ever heard them when they came up during the Facebook game SongPop
