Same score here, same reason.

Find them pretty tedious, tbh, and not a patch on the magnificence of Kyuss. Undersung Kyuss jam:

Decent band; hardly ever listen to them.

Enjoy Rated R, Songs for the Deaf and Like Clockwork, and a couple of singles from the others.

Until Like Clockwork they were just one of those bands who had a few decent songs but never really listened to any further, was really impressed with Like Clockwork and it was the first time I started actively listening to them, bought the album and saw them live. Big soft spot for that album as a result. Then Villians was shite. Haven’t listened to them in ages now but probably should.

My argument for Villians not being shit -

Quite like this off Villans. Couldn’t tell you a name of another track on that album:

It really is a perfect song. It’s packed with so many different emotions, but the music itself doesn’t necessarily reflect any of them and instead kind of allows them to grow naturally on their own, if that makes sense. Not many bands get to the level of being able to pull that off.

One of my favorite things is that single background note that fades in at 2:22 during the second verse and sustains until the chorus. Such a simple, subtle decision but it elevates everything to a whole other level.

And I’m not sure if there’s been a better, more inventive bass line in the past 20 years. Taken in isolation you’d think it would clash, but then when you assemble everything it’s absolutely perfect and it’s like it was the only option in the first place. It would be a completely different song without it.

Hope everyone who isn’t into them gives it a shot, it really is great.

Not their best album but I really liked the sound they had on Era Vulgaris.

If I Had A Tail is easily the best song fo sho. Still struggle with the cardinal sin of having Elton John guesting, though…

Like many others I’m voting based on the first 3 albums plus live performance (Glastonbury 2002 in my case). Although I hadn’t listened to them in years before today, that period is still worth a 4. I can’t really say why I stopped listening to their new stuff - I guess I just felt enough of that style of music to keep me going, as US '90s/early '00s alt rock dominated my listening habits for most of my teenage years.

Listening to Rated R now, I’d forgotten how much I used to like Autopilot. Nice to rediscover it. These threads are great for that :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve done the same tonight with Rated R and Lullabies and Clockwork. They’re much more, errr, expansive than I remember, can properly get lost in them I reckon.

if it had been a single and therefore in the poll, I’d have voted it without any hesitation

he’s fine? He does some group vocals and plays some nice piano but doesn’t exactly hotdog and grandstand brother

Born to Hula was their first ever b-side I think.

Never really got it. Like the stoner rock thing in general and I always heard people talk about QOTSA as part of that, but to me it sounds more like the Foo Fighters and that kind of rock thing. I was the right age when they came out to be into it, into the right things, people around be loved them, but for me it never clicked.

To be fair, I guess it’s partly just that they are in that hinterland where it’s kind of heavy, but never that heavy, and all of that falls flat for me.

Anyway I gave them a 1, which is maybe a bit harsh as they’re not actively harmful, but there you are. Probably a 2 would be more fair

Sometimes I guess with stuff that came out around this time, i wonder if it’s just that I didn’t have the money to buy it and no one happened to burn me a copy.

Finally, Kyuss are a solid 5
