I know he has spoken about mental health issues and drug dependency/misuse too (I think) and it does appear he has some self awareness, so Iām not in anyway disparaging him for that. Itās more about my personal bafflement at how many people are drawn to this type of personality. As a character heās very recognisable as the preening cocky school bully, the kid who has been told he is good looking and has a bit of swagger. And the music is just awful imo.

Yeah, that kinda schtick sucks, but I do think at heart heās ok. He obviously battles with managing the side of him that is Robbie Williams the performer. He wants to be the big entertainer and be loved by everyone, but heās also obviously very self-aware and dubious of his own self-worth. I donāt doubt heās been a dick in the past many times over, but I think heād own that behaviour now and recognise it as such.

I should hate him but for some reason I donāt. He usually comes across well in interviews. I used to love how it would come out every now and then which would lead to some harassed looking music exec turning up the next day to stress that Robbie isnāt gay. His episode of Cribs is very funny.
Iām now not happy that I know all this about an artist I really donāt give a damn about.
And I fucking hate Angels.
But thereās enough to give him a 2.

Iām probably thinking of early Robbie as he emerged from Take That and maybe that was a media driven image rather than how he is? I think Iāve managed to pretty much ignore the āignorant attention seekingā bit, I remember he seemed to go down a bit of a UFO, conspiracy theories hole and it seemed indicative of other issues going on. I hope heās in a better place now.
fwiw I like threads like this in just understanding why people like artists who are an anathema to me - beyond the obvious āI love the tunesā statement - which tunes, what it is about them, what made the live experience so enjoyable, how you relate to them as artists in your life etc.
