What’s going on with his voice here. It’s really unsettling

It’s so bad it makes me quite cross. My mum loves it, obviously.

How is this man behind Back For Good (5/5)? Excruciating.

gary should not be writing pop music anymore. he’d do better teaming up with tim minchin and writing not very good songs for musicals

Quite enjoyed this interview with him from a year ago:

He’s not for me tbh, but appreciate that lots of people like the thing he does and he at least has a personality which is more than can be said for a lot of other massive pop stars.

Ha! I suppose what I meant was that when you look at the big list of songs that Guy Chambers has written, the only good ones are the ones with Robbie. (Apart from maybe Irish Son by Brian McFadden, but now is not the time for Brian McFadden chat)

Rock DJ is a great song, everyone needs to grow up

Feel is the first song I ever remember liking

I’ve just been made aware of this song also:

Awful awful awful.

All the comments about how they speak Portuguese in Brazil and no one is called Elita there either

Genuinely can’t bear him onstage or off, it’s a 1 from me

And I say this as someone who had doll of him from his Take That days

Do you remember how he got rinsed a couple of years back for using hand sanitiser after shaking people’s hands in the front row at his NYE concert? Totally vindicated now isn’t he?

Think Candy was a Gary Barlow tune/collab as well

The big hits make me shudder in revulsion and his voice is like fingernails on a blackboard to me. It’s a time of life thing, I reckon. Got nowt against the lad nor anyone who enjoys him, and I suspect there’s more depth to him than I realise. Life’s too short to take the time to find out, though.

1/5.

Guess their stock was sky high after the massively successful reunion and his close to rock bottom.

There’s no 0. Why can’t I vote 0? I fucking despise Robbie Williams AND his music with every fibre of my fucking being.

Barlow looks like one of those people who’d be at pains to tell you how hard they’d worked for every penny of their wealth, how you can’t expect anyone in this world to do anything for you etc etc

Seems an arse, very many bad songs, his voice is sometimes painful, but ffs Angels and She’s The One are absolutely amazing songs, absolute all timers. If anything is impressive that he can release those two and only get a 2 for his efforts, that’s how off putting the guy is otherwise.

Good timing this thread as my flat recently had a little Robbie session so it’s fresh in my mind.

I loved Robbie as a kid, I was the right age to unashamedly love him as a pop star and my immediate family liked him a lot too. The wheels started falling off after his ā€œI’M RICH BEYOND MY WILDEST DREAMS!ā€ craic which resulted in Escapology onwards, though that album still had some great songs which detail his personal daemons in quite touching detail regardless of his success, even if it was effectively the end of his relevancy.

I forgot until returning to it recently just how much he took over Oasis’s sound after they had fucked it with Be Here Now, which I guess is what kicked the feud off? But honestly, Robbie took that initial, hardly original or inspired sound (and I say this as someone who likes the first couple Oasis albums) and just made a more honest, straight-up pop version.

Some of his lyrics are very dated, cheesy and cringey 20 years later but there’s still a certain charm to him, and to be honest, those run of singles between 97-02 is pretty untouchable (ā€˜Kids’ is so fucking uplifting). Struggling to go beyond a 3 at the moment due to the years of shite he has put out since and his questionable statements, but might up to a 4 later if I’m feeling general/to party balance out the inevitable kicking he’s going to get.

Here’s an underrated pop-punk banger of his that I believe was on FIFA 99 or 2000

Didn’t know for years that She’s the One is a cover (an almost identical one at that)
