The hot rock is best album. Everyone else is wrong. Sorry

So, full disclosure: Sleater-Kinney are my favourite band of all time. OF ALL TIME. Their run of albums from Call The Doctor to The Woods is complete and utter dynamite. Seeing them evolve from rough and ready riot grrrl punk to 60’s girl group harmonies and surf guitar into an absolute monster of prog rock was wild. When they split up the first time I cried a whole lot and was in mourning for months.

Their show (as Slutty-Kitty) at the Camden Monarch is my #1 gig of all time.

Carrie and Corin’s guitar interplay is exquisite and I never tire of listening to it. But they definitely fucked up. The reason they stayed so strong for so many years is because of Janet. She was never the third wheel, as great as CTD is the band only truly came alive when she joined. The way she was treated during the last album was awful - I appreciate them taking artistic risks even if it doesn’t work, but sidelining her like that - the best fucking drummer in the world - was unforgivable.

That said, it can only ever be a 5, their music means too much for me and they’ve too much of a major impact on my life for them to be anything less.

Gone for a 5, think barring everything but the last album I like to love them all. Wild how consistent they are. The Woods was the one that got me into them, absolutely blistering album.

I change my mind every couple of hours on which album is their best

Corin is one of my favourite vocalists ever. Think i’ll revisit her solo albums today.

I’m same with all the others. Guess it’s because it came out in my first year of uni and I listened to it so much

Another massive gap in my musical knowledge … Which album is the best to start with, or should I just go with the @dingaling primer?

i am going to abstain as i haven’t heard enough of them. what i have heard i really like right enough, i really should just spend some time with them.

They’re released like 3 of my fav albums ever

Hot Rock, Call The Doctor and Jumpers

Clearly great, and have a bunch of songs I love, but haven’t really resonated with me yet. Will go back to them again soon but so far it’s appreciation more than fandom - 3/5

Watched this endlessly though

I’ll abstain I think. Only know ‘Dig Me Out’, which is great, and have always meant to investigate further. Will try the primer @dingaling posted upthread today.

Torn between 4 and 5 on this.

The Woods is the one album I never quite connected with. Have been meaning to revisit it for ages as I know the DiS consensus is it’s their best. Love the first couple of pure riot grrrl albums.
Thought No Cities was brilliant but haven’t bothered with the latest one just because reasons.

So really it’s a 5 because that hit rate is amazing but I don’t quite have that absolute emotional connection that I’ve been saving 5s for. Hmmm it is 9/10 though so maybe I should round up.

dig me out is incredible, really loved no cities to love, everything else theyve done is great. saw them on the NCTL tour and they were brilliant fun even if at the time i only really knew the woods and NCTL, dug more into them after that. carrie’s book from a few years ago is really brilliant too

Solid 4 from me. A fine and very influential band.

I’m a big fan of the slightly under-regarded The Hot Rock, which is their softest, most melodic record, but I pretty much like all of the others as well.

5 Only started listening to them just before No Cities came out but they quickly became my favourite band ever. Dig Me Out, The Hot Rock and The Woods are three of my favourite albums ever. The Hot Rock is my favourite today.

Really love Call the Doctor too and I would still give AHOTBO, One Beat and No Cities 5/5 also.

In 2015, I saw them in London and Manchester, then at Primavera, before going to New York in December, basically just to see them. Saw them in Manchester last year and they were still great but don’t like the new album and the Janet business is sad.

Been listening to Quasi to get more of a Janet fix recently and they are very, very good.

Never been into them. Abstain

My favourite S-K song.

Absolutely did not like the last two albums but enjoyed everything before the reformation. Need to dig out my CDs again.
