Not checked these threads in ages, happy to see Aretha still on top

This is the first one for a month or so, been resting Aretha over the busy festive fixture period.

I honestly have no real idea I realise.

Only ever listened to McCartney I, II and III. They’re okay I guess?

I should prob give each of their albums a listen but loathe to if I’m honest.

Obviously I’ve heard some big singles but they’re all all over the place

No Frog Song, The Moon is Right or Temporary Secretary in the McCartney best of is pure silliness

Apols I’ll blur for the negativity, just not really for me I guess:

Lennon - picked up all his studio albums from £1 bins as a student. The awful covers album aside they basically all had the odd good track and then a lot of filler. Probably should have just saved the songs and put out an album every 3 years.

McCartney - have tried periodically to listen to his albums but just an absolute slog, find all his post Beatles stuff really strange like there is just something a few degrees off and the result is weirdly disturbing. I actually think the cheesy pop songs might be the best. I do get Temporary Secretary though, think it’s the ultimate PM song in that it is somehow both brilliant and terrible at the same time.

Harrison - waded my way through all the albums and they are so dull. Only ones that are of any interest are Wonderwall Music and Electronic Sounds. Not good but at least interesting, the only ones I’d bother listening to again. All Things Must Pass (record 1 anyway) is a great bunch o songs but taken as a whole I find it dull, just too much soft rock. After that it is clear he just doesn’t care about the music, it’s kind of depressing.

Ringo - really like him as a drummer in the Beatles but really don’t know how anyone could enjoy his solo albums. Can’t say I’ve made it through more than a handful of songs though so maybe there are gems, seems unlikely tbh but maybe.

Ringo - 1
Dirty old pervert

Lennon - 3
rarely go back to anything but a few tracks, but do love them

George - 4
All Things Must Pass is the most consistent solo Beatles album, there’s some wonderful stuff on it. Not bothered outside of that

Paul - 5
Love the dude. McCartney 2 is so much fun. RAM is my favourite, don’t understand how it was reviewed poorly at the time. Basically invented the genre of indie pop. Don’t even mind some Wings stuff tbf.

For some reason despite going all in on the Beatles as my first deep dive in music having only listened to chart stuff before voraciously buying all the Beatles albums, even getting posters for my walls, I never got round to listening to the solo stuff to this day. I’ve heard McCartney III and thought I had heard ‘the John Lennon album’ but looks like he had a few and I don’t recognise the cover art of any of the albums or compilations I can see when I look them up. I know Temporary Secretary, Live and Let Die and My Sweet Lord but I’d never even considered the fact there are whole catalogues out there that I’d been oblivious to.

Might see what I can squeeze in today.

Really like a lot of McCartney stuff and he’s clearly a great egg. He gets a 5. Maybe I’m Amazed is fucking brilliant.

Find nearly everything Lennon did post-Beatles really boring and rubbish. Plus obviously a massive cunt. 1.

Ringo also gets a 1, only heard a couple of his solo songs but they were not good.

Harrison can have a 3. Some of his stuff (mostly the big hits) isn’t bad but most of it does nothing for me.
