Cheese it! It’s the distinctively densely layered fuzz that defines the lush stadium ready shoegaze of the Siamese Dream sound!

I only really know the big hitters as far as albums are concerned but I’ve always found them a joy to listen to and get swept away in. 4.

Maybe I need to give Sonic Nurse another go. In that trilogy at the end of their career (we don’t talk about the Eternal) I always felt it was the weakest against Murray St and Rather Ripped, but people here seem to love it.

That run of: Bad Moon Rising - EVOL - Sister - Daydream Nation - Goo - Dirty… is just incredible. Maybe the best of any band. Each one of those has been my favourite album of all time at some point, with BMR being on top for the longest.

I bought Daydream Nation first, purely because I liked the cover, not knowing anything about them, and I listened to that album multiple times a day for months. Then I got into the back catalogue, and it was all pretty important for me.

There are however… some issues. Post-Dirty, the only album I like start to finish is Rather Ripped. The rest have a lot of dreck, some high points mixed in with a lot of lows. They got boring, and sometimes cringey too. They were disappointing live as well, but I saw them well past their peak.

4/5

I mean they played Lollapalooza and I think Goo and Dirty were too polished because of their moderate success. I’m not arguing these are bad albums I’m just saying they had some brief mainstream success.

Mad/great that bull in the heather got to 24 in the uk.

(And therefore their best performing single)

Yesterday I wasn’t sure whether to go for a 4 or 5 - would have been an easy 5 when I was younger, but I don’t think there’s one album I’d rate as highly as the best work of most other artists I’ve given 5. However, reading the thread has convinced me they deserve a 5. What they lack in dizzying peaks they make up for in consistency and longevity. Best things about them - the thrilling guitar sound and the way they build an atmosphere. There’s something cinematic about the way they do that - of their 89s/99s contemporaries I can only think of the Afghan Whigs (easy 5) who did it as well.

Another reason they stand out from the crowd is how collaborative their music was - again unlike most of their contemporaries and I’d guess the key reason they didn’t burn out.

My favourite albums are probably Daydream Nation, Sister and Washing Machine. Only got Sonic Nurse a year or two ago after seeing it recommended on here, and would agree that it’s excellent. I need to give a lot more time to Murray Street and Rather Ripped as well…

saw one of those musicians show you their gear videos on youtube once and Lee was great; just engaging and knowledgable and geeky in the best way, but also he clearly took no more pleasure in anything than jamming screwdrivers and drumsticks into bits of his guitars.

Yeah that’s what I was saying tbh, they left that sound behind after Dirty because they had other interests outside making polished radio rock (or at least anything approaching it)

Lee has a really great and wide ranging solo career too. Love the spoken word noise jams but also dig the more poppy rock numbers on between the times & the tides.

It’s this right? 25 minutes long but it flies by because he’s so lovely and knowledgeable, and all his stuff’s so interesting.

4 for me, moments of greatness but dont like having to wade through tryhard feedback to get to it all

yeah I think so. Might have seen a shorter one as well, just like a 5 minute thing?

One thing I remember from that is that the storage unit appears to have all the master tapes for the albums. I was surprised by this but presumably means the band have full ownership and rights to the masters?

Yeah that’s at the end of this one, where they’re all stacked up and he still has his old teenage band’s tapes  man I’d fully recommend the full one if you get the time, he’s just infectious about everything.

Not a band I’ve put that much time into beyond the run of Sister, Daydream Nation, and Goo, each of which I’ve been pretty into at some point, bought a couple of them on record. Have always mean to dive in beyond, but these days I often reach for that greatest hits they released for Starbucks or something. The tracklist is really quite good/banger centric. Often hear a deep cut that really impresses me. Never got to see them live…

3.5/5, but I’m feeling generous so I’ve rounded up to four. I’m sure I’ll get into them properly at some point.

that Starbucks thing was p weird
