Unfamiliar with him apart from Tommib off the Lost in Translation soundtrack, which is lovely but an outlier it seems. Will check out some of the reccs.

Abstain, never heard a note of his music.

i’d forgotten about that track, it’s lovely.

Not really the same but these have some nice tracks on also. Not sure they quite capture the same mood really but good all the same.

Probably echo what has been said above, I’ve not gone too deep into his post 2000 career and from what I have heard about it, I will not check it out.

Port Rhombus EP is his best release imo

Possibly the first one on the list that I haven’t only not heard, but also don’t know anything about.

Big fan of Vic Acid

Probably a ‘second tier IDM great’ for me. Don’t quite love him the way I do Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada et al but still often raises a smile. I do tend to find break-core a bit exhausting over the course of an album though.

Interested to hear from @Twinkletoes on this one actually…

Very much this for me. I got big in to that stuff in I guess early 2000s and Squarepusher is the only one I’ve lost interest in. Found Hello Everything a bit boring and just kinda drifted away from him after that. Should probably check out his more recent stuff. As it is, a 3.

He gets a 5 JUST for Tundra 4.

I met Squarepusher backstage at Green Man. I was playing with my band and we stumbled across him recording a live session. Afterwards I basically collared him, talked about times we’ seen him before and asked if he would give me bass lessons. Expected him to laugh in my face but he actually was like ‘Maybe, I’ll give you my manager’s email’. Ended up exchanging emails with him for a while - it never happened but it was fun. A quote:

I have a perverse interest that ideas that don’t fit and that are awkward and provacative and I’d be concerned that infecting you with some of that attitude might actually make things harder for you.

I’m torn here. You see I don’t like IDM, Jazz and Breakcore. I don’t get Squarepusher at all.
I though some of the stuff with trance synths was alright but never liked enough to bother listening to those songs.
I tried to watch him twice at Glastonbury, the first time he was playing the hardest drill n base I’ve ever heard, the second the was playing jazz IDM, I ran away just as fast both times.

I’m torn because I think I don’t like his music enough to give him a 1 but he is much better than the other acts I’ve give a 1.

Torn I say… :man_shrugging:t2:

This bangs though.

So many great songs on there, easily done. Plus it’s like a minute long :grinning:

Weird one, in that I think his exceptional technical ability as a musician is what holds him back from making really great music.

seems mad talented, don’t really get on with what i’ve heard - Tommib is the only one I can bring to mind, his much more mellow side

does a good cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart though

oh the 2020 one is lovely, might have to check that album now
