Oh man, I have a whole group of friends who fucking LOVE Suede.

For me they’ve done some great stuff but also so much uninspired dross.

They’ve got a 3 but that’s possibly a little generous. Sci-Fi Lullabies, though…what a collection of songs.

Their best album is Sci-Fi Lullabies.

Night Thoughts is low key one of the best indie albums of the last ten years. Would recommend anyone who is even a passing fan who hasn’t heard it to give it a go.

Overall probably a 3 outside of that. A low 3.

Sci fi lullabies disc 1 is their best album IMO

One of those bands where you look at the singles compilation and imagine that’s how you’d discover the band… so many bangers and more to explore.

I seem to recall disc 2 isn’t far off it, though.

Oh yeah not bad at all, just happier  I like my Suede miserable.

I’m thinking a 4. First 3 records are absolutely brilliant and Coming Up was a huge album for me as a teenager. Went a bit downhill after that until Night Thoughts which is properly good. Brillisnt singles band too and as mentioned, Sci Fi Lullabies is fucking great. 4.

3/5. They’re alright

Recall thinking Neil Codling might have had the easiest job in rock when Coming Up! came out. It seemed like he basically just had to hit a single note on a keyboard in time and hold it for a bar or two. Legend.

Have a massive soft spot for Suede, first two albums are wonderful. Coming Up has its moments but stopped caring after that. Haven’t bothered with the latter stuff though saw a bit of their set at Primavera last year and the newer stuff sounded quite huge.

The artwork, imagery of the early days is really striking though and a lot of time for things like hosting the Derek Jarman AIDS benefit in 1993.

The documentary made a couple of years back is really great too, very honest. It’s still on Now TV last time I checked.

Overall, a 4.

All my Suede loving buddies really loved the very latest album and rated it as a return to form. Definitely reminded me a lot of Dog Man Star in style.

Will be changing my single vote about 18 times I think.

Never knowingly heard a Suede song. Abstain.

Yer man Brett has one of those voices where when he’s singing his best material and it all clicks he sounds divine and when the song or the execution is even a bit off it sounds grating.

3/5 for the first two lps and Sci fi lullabies

A band that, in theory, should’ve been great but somehow conspired not to be.

Apparently Brett Anderson’s recent books are quite good.
