Still waiting on his album about Connecticut but he’s still a 5.

Thanks for playing.

Not quite been able to get into most of his stuff but I LOVE Carrie & Lowell, and Futile Devices is one of the most beautiful songs to exist. Seven Swans is nice too.

The Ascension was a million hours long and boring as fuck though, and I don’t know that the rest of Adz will ever be my cup of tea. A probably generous 4/5 because I feel like I will one day have a lightbulb moment with Illinois etc and I reeeeally like the stuff I do like of his.

Love Illinoise. Don’t really get on with his other stuff. Probably a 3.

Wish he’d continued his 50 state project.

A five for me. So disappointed I didn’t get to see him play live this year, as I’m always captivated watching him play/perform.
Find it hard to choose between Illinois, Seven Swans, and Adz. Have gone for Seven Swans at the moment.

  1. So much music with so much going on that I am surprised that it can all sound so uninteresting to me. The song Chicago is really the only thing he’s done that I’d choose to listen to again.

Sufjan gets a 5, obviously.

Massive 5. Might have to abstain on the album.

Seven swans, age of adz, illinois and Carrie and Lowell are all utterly perfect.

Best act I’ve ever seen live (with 2 completely different shows).

Seems like a very nice person also.

Right at the very top of my personal list. Really big fan of his work

Never understood the appeal

Adz, Illinois and C&L are note-perfect records and I love them dearly. Everything else he does is always going to be compared to this high water mark – which is why some releases may seem underwhelming, but that’s just the standards he’s set – they’re still great releases.

The live shows have been spectacular and will stick with me forever. I love that he’s comfortable doing his own thing (almost going towards ambient on the new record). He seems like an enormous GBOL too. Just feels like a hugely personal artist that properly gets under your skin. Means a lot to me (and my partner, which is lovely)

A mixture of good, fine, boring as fuck and actively irritating. Gave me one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen but also, I literally never feel like I want to listen to him. I dunno? 3?

Like Octo, I’m a 2 for this reason:

Individual songs can be nice but a whole album of them just does my head in.

Doesn’t deserve the full 1, but he’s not that good really. Illinois is the only album I’ve ever enjoyed and even then I’m bored by the three quarter mark. His records are too long, mostly too dull, and he even made astronomy boring, which is some going.

Such a simple and beautiful song

Might listen to sufjan all day

5er. One of those rare artists where I’m not in to everything, but it all has value as part of a body of work and is always at least interesting. As already said, Illinois, Adz and C&L are ATDs and, for me, put him up there with the very best of all time.

Used to like Illinois. Find him a bit twee and precious though. 2
