šŸŽµ How Good Are They Really šŸŽµ Super Furry Animals

Amount of 5s in this thread is incredible… Must be a ā€˜you had to be there’ thing…

Tough one. I used to absolutely love them - bought all their records and used to see them live a lot when I lived in London (they were a great live band). And yet…when was the last time I put one of their records on? They’re all on the shelf but I just din’t feel any excitement about them at all.

I wavered long and hard between a 2 and a 3 but in the end went for a 3 on the basis that they gave me a lot of fun once upon a time and I think there is a fair chance I’ll go back to them at some stage.

A good solid 4 - not one of my absolute favourites, but make consistently great and genuinely inventive music. Herman Loves Pauline for the single, Smokin’ for album track and Radiator for album.

My head says 4, but I’ve gone 5 because of the haters

4 from me, great band, catchy tunes but often lots of interesting things going on. I would have voted for ice hockey hair as my fave single though.

Once I got home still full of drugs and put Radiator on, then stayed up for another 6 hours doing a perfect recreation of the cover in MS Paint. So, 4 I think?

5/5 - my second favourite band of all time.

First saw them in KIng Tuts in 1996 and must be a good 7/8 times since.

Would have thought this is a band that nobody could give lower than 3 for, but there you go. Clearly they haven’t connected with everyone in the way they have with their fans as they’d have had a series of no.1 albums if they had. Never mind, they left that to Coldplay, eh?

Do you still have it?

I created a new cover for a fictional Radiator follow up for my GCSE Art coursework. Didn’t get a good mark for it. But my art teacher was a knob.

Sadly not, it was 3 laptops ago. It was actually very good though.

5/5 but only because 10/5 isn’t an option

l love the idea of SFA but the reality never lived up to it for me. really liked the first 2 albums at the time, thought were a bit of a slog though, and they’re a really good singles band. decent live the one time I saw them. 3/5

It’s a 5 from me Funkster. One of those bands I’ll always see when they’re touring. Hardly a bad song across their entire discography.

Just the best band. 6/5

How many other bands have their own tank!

I can also completely see why people wouldn’t like them as well to be fair…

Think the zanyness might put a lot of people off.

First 2 albums are good, Radiator especially. Only got into those when they were touring them in full a couple of years ago which was a lot of fun. I only really know some singles from the later albums. Been meaning to listen to Guerilla next.

4 based on what I’ve heard

Bit clever clogs. Some good songs, some bloat, don’t like his voice much. Abstain or 3, who knows?

Edit: fwiw I have no beef with clever clogs, especially if it aids the music but doing your gigs in 5.1 just because or whatever isn’t really improving anything for anyone imo

Agree about Hey Venus! Didn’t think much of it when it was released but listened to it recently and it sounded like a proper lost classic.
