ABBA are five million times better than Arcade Fire.

I sure hope so!

Agreed, ABBA piss on them from a great height

Absolute :five:

One of those foundational artists for me. Nicked my sister’s copy of the best-of, Once In A Lifetime, as a kid and played it to death. Realised later how unrepresentative it was! Also remember being weirded out by Stop Making Sense as I had no idea what a live album was lol

Loved that they didn’t just write ‘songs about girlfriends’, everything was a oblique in some way. Made other bands seem pedestrian, lyrically at least - why weren’t Ash or whoever writing songs about houses and not moving to the country? My idea of what songs should be about was probably a bit miscalibrated as a result

Only very recently heard their last three albums in full! Little Creatures and True Stories had a few good tunes each, but were otherwise as average as I’d feared for me. Naked was nice, though

Remain in Light is their best album for me, with Houses in Motion or The Great Curve as the tunes, and Stop Making Sense is one of the great live albums

I like this band so much I tried retelling S1 of True Detective in TH lyrics, and found they work surprisingly well:

tl;dr uh-oh, five comes to town

Also wanted to say that Sax and Violins is one of the nicest ‘final songs’ from any band ever

Oh to be clear I meant “this is funny because Arcade Fire have morphed into an ABBA tribute act in the last couple albums”

Just listened to The Name of This Band is Talking Heads while doing the cleaning, as it was the only TH record I’d never heard

It’s really good :ok_hand:

Second disc is mindblowingly good. I owned the double CD when I was a teenager and didn’t appreciate it at the time, too many tracks. Got the LP version a few years ago and it’s so, so good

I dont watch many live gigs at home, never do it for me, Stop Making Sense is 100% the outlier though

Never got around to Stop Making Sense before today. Foolish, given how much I’ve fallen in love with the back catalogue. Because of this thread I’ve finally got around to it. Thank you DiS.

This is too good. Nearly burst into tears during ‘Heaven’.

Yer man DB is an absolute master of the yelp, holler and general ululation. Hard to do without sounding like a prick.

4.28 is apparently the score to beat for this claim, what say you?
