Lonerism is incredible. Pretty much a perfect record.

Not listened to anything else other than the singles from Currents (which were fine but not for me. Couldn’t stand Cause I’m a Man). I’m happy leaving it at that

It’s from this point (02:41) onwards. The synth melody and the movement in the bass always make me think of ‘Moonlight Shadow’. Don’t know if there’s a wanky musical term for it but it’s like it’s implying that ‘Moonlight Shadow’ is a part of it. It drives me around the twist.

Only song I know is Elephant and I haven’t listened to it enough to make the riff and lyrics match up in my head version so find it massively annoying

Really surprised at this thread - thought they’d do well. I think he / they are absolutely brilliant. First album is a bit of a Dungen ripoff for sure, but it’s a really, really good one, and if you’re going to rip off anybody, may as well be the best in the business.

Lonerism is one of best albums of the last ten years imo. Aside from Elephant which I’ve never really liked, whole album is just about perfect. Takes everything great about the first record and improves on it. Develops a far more signature sound too. Didn’t like Currents at first, but love it now. Haven’t spent a lot of time with Slow Rush, but will do today. Easy 5/5 for those first 3. Been great live when I’ve seen them too.

Also at the ‘psych music for
’ comments are total bullshit. I like absolutely loads of psychedelic music, certainly enough to know that a record doesn’t have to make your ears bleed to be considered psychedelic lol

Always really liked this one, liked the psychy/garagy stuff a lot

Think the fact that they’ve been everywhere in the last 5 or 6 years and have only released one not very good album has hit their star a bit, whenever I actually listen to them it’s all really good and they’re an excellent live act. Think 4 seems fair.

Just find them really dull tbh and don’t understand how they are so big. I’ve got a pal that genuinely thinks they are the best band of all time.

Someone I used to work in catering with (who now works for a concert promoter) introduced me to them as ‘the next big thing’ back on Innerspeaker - fair enough really. Didn’t massively get it with that album but really liked Lonerism and thought Currents was just brilliant. Saw them at EOTR around that time and had a blast.

Massively went off them in the intervening years mainly due to a) their ubiquity and b) them somehow having a predominantly really annoying audience. So wasn’t looking forward to The Slow Rush but against all better judgement I found it really listenable. Nowhere near the previous two albums but definitely a pleasant listen with some good hooks, found myself sticking it on in the background a lot during lockdown 1.0.

Then saw them at Primavera this year and MY GOD they are a very very dull live act aren’t they? Cool light show and some confetti do not make up for a lack of passion or stage presence. I think coming right after Yeah Yeah Yeahs (and even before Phoenix) didn’t do them any favours but I was really surprised with how boring I found it.

So yeah, after that ramble, probs 3/5?
