Oooh lovely. Was absolutely obsessed with them around Hospice/BA, one of the greatest 1-2s of the modern age for me. Devastating and beautiful both, love then lots

Haven’t been able to connect as much with the last two but there’s still magic knocking around. Very much a 5 for me though, mean(t) a lot to young tuna

One great record (Burst Apart), but found them pretty bland otherwise.

3/5.

Don’t trust people who prefer Hospice to Burst Apart tbh

Ultimate concept album innit. The highs are higher than BA, it’s just so raw. Can barely listen to hospice though.

I think that’s exactly it. Hospice has pretty much the most emotion heft of any album I’ve listened to, and I felt a bit disappointed in Burst Apart in comparison.

Great album, sure, but Hospice is pretty much perfect, and impossible to follow up.

Can’t really ever listen to Hospice, too difficult emotionally, but it’s a magnificent album.

Saw them do Hospice in full in an acoustic setting a few years back, and it was exactly as good as I’d hoped.

Thought Hospice was brilliant and hit me hard when it came out, was never that fussed by them after that

The Antlers aka the band responsible for one of the most depressing albums ever recorded.

I give them a 4. Familiars and the album before Hospice don’t do it for me at all. On the other hand, Hospice, Burst Apart and Green to Gold are all excellent.

As pretty much everyone else has already said, Hospice and Burst Apart are both tremendous.

Familiars was a bit of a let down after those two but their last album was actually really good, if a bit samey in places.

I’ve always enjoyed this song from Peter Silberman’s solo album

Just relistened to Hospice to make sure I wasn’t having a moment. Completely forgettable for me. Nowhere near as much personality as Burst Apart.

Wonderful band.
Hospice is an all timer, just an astonishing album. Burst Apart is also excellent of course.
Have really enjoyed their last couple of albums, both leaning heavily on latter day Talk Talk. Pete Silberman’s solo album is lovely.
Was so looking forward to finally seeing them live this year, but unfortunately they cancelled their European tour.
Worth a 5 in my book for one of the finest catalogues of any contemporary artist.

Like Hospice but never got into the rest

loved hospice (haven’t listened to it in ages right enough) but nothing else landed for me. found burst apart pretty disappointing.

They’re good. Burst Apart is an album I hated when it was released, but have decided now that it’s a classic. Hospice was a very very good listen when I liked the concept, but now as I’ve got older and more people in my life have died, it’s an artful bit of work that I can no longer listen to.

I liked Familiars at the time, if I remember right, but it’s a bit weak listening back now. Only just realised that there was a new album after this thread, so I’ll go and have a listen.

Pesonally, the release I go back to is Undersea. Really captured a vibe with that release, I think. Very impressive. Drift Drive is the most Blue Nile-ish a band has ever gotten.

Great band

And Familiars is brilliant even tho people were horrible about it on release

And yeah the Undersea EP is quietly some of their best stuff

Absolutely wonderful band. Always a little surprised at the regard in which Hospice is held beyond the following albums which I reckon are every bit as good (if not better). Familiars really grew on me, and their latest, whilst not quite up to the high standards of the previous ones, is still really lovely. Like a big, sad warm hug. 4

Hospice is a 10/10 and Burst Apart 8/10. Didn’t rate the last two.

Think I like this as much as anything on Burst Apart, which it’s essentially a tribute to.

Never found them that great live unfortunately.

I bought Hospice on a whim based entirely on a “if you enjoyed this, try this…” link on Amazon in the days before I had Spotify. And I was absolutely obsessed by it. The songs sound almost like nursery rhymes, but they have such a crushing weight behind it. I was fascinated by the story running through the album as well.

I remember DiS getting pretty excited by Burst Apart and initially it was a bit disappointing until it clicked, but when it did I couldn’t stop listening to it. That last song just kills me every time.

I thought that was it at the time, but was excited when I found out there were 2 other albums, but they never really grabbed me.
I also remember them as guest editors on DiS just as Familiars came out and got a fairly ordinary 6/10 and I don’t think they were all that impressed by it. But it was probably a fair score.

The only problem with Hospice and Burst Apart is that they leave me in bits every time - I find them extremely hard to listen to now. They aren’t exactly uplifting, and I’m finding myself emotionally a bit unable to cope with the thought of it. Not a complaint of the albums, but you’re not going to put them on to be uplifted are you?

I’ve gone for a 5 because of the impact they had on me at the time. If I ever feel strong enough I’ll go back to Hospice and Burst Apart and it’s nice to know they are there waiting for me. I’m probably more likely to go back to Familiars and see if I can finally crack it.
