Didn’t Ringo have a little run of 2 or 3 albums in the early to mid 70s which were massive in the U.S. to the extent he was the most commercially successful ex-Beatle?

Ringo is notable for having all the Beatles on it. Probably sold a lot of copies off the back of that.

me and gf are big fans of going to the albert dock and pretending that we don’t know who the beatles are, acting like they must be the people who opened that sweet shop with the beatles pictures all over it, then being amazed that there’s a museum for the sweet shop and that people in liverpool love the sweet shop so much that there’s pictures of the sweet shop men all over town. man scousers sure love those sweet shop guys

also no ones mentioned that insane ringo single from a couple of years ago that referenced loads of old beatles songs. can’t remember what it’s called to find it on youtube but it was properly hilarious

found it. so shit

Was that from the album he named after his childhood postcode which was essentially about how he felt he’d outgrown the area he grew up in? It was egotism dressed up as nostalgia.

Think he said around the same time he said he wouldn’t be signing autographs any more either.

You got to admire this very gentle kind of scorched earth approach…

no idea. it was a couple of years after the no more autographs thing i think. just remember seeing it going round on twitter and just being blown away by how rubbish and self indulgent it was :grinning: fwiw i love ringo for the no more autographs thing, thomas tank and the simpsons cameo. one of my few excellent impressions

Ah, looks like it’s from a different but equally bad and mawkish Ringo album. These are the lyrics to Liverpool 8:

I was a sailor first, I sailed the sea
Then I got a job, in a factory
Played Butlin’s Camp with my friend Rory
It was good for him, it was great for me

Liverpool I left you, said ‘goodbye’ to Madryn Street
I always followed my heart, and I never missed a beat
Destiny was calling, I just couldn’t stick around
Liverpool I left you, but I never let you down

Went to Hamburg, the red lights were on
With George & Paul, and my friend John
We rocked all night, we all looked tough
We didn’t have much, but we had enough

Liverpool I left you, said ‘goodbye’ to Madryn Street
I always followed my heart, and I never missed a beat
Destiny was calling, I just couldn’t stick around
Liverpool I left you, but I never let you down

In the U.S.A. when we played Shea
We were Number One, and it was fun
When I look back, it sure was cool
For those Four Boys from Liverpool

Liverpool I left you, said ‘goodbye’ to Admiral Grove
I always followed my heart, so I took it on the road
Destiny was calling, I just couldn’t stick around
Liverpool I left you, but I never let you down

La la la la la la…Liverpool

:grimacing:

Do I like them? Yes.
Do I ever listen to them? No.

how would you feel if they were erased from existence?

for those who don’t like the beatles but recognise they were innovators who do doubt influenced music you do like, given the choice between the current timeline, and the unknown one where the beatles didn’t exist, would you roll that dice?

  • I would roll that dice
  • I would not roll that dice

Haven’t read the thread, but would probably do what that lad did in that film.
