I think it’s a reflection of how narrow goth became, stuff like pornography and Faith pointed to a blueprint that was quickly thrown away. I’m no expert on goth but that’s my feeling if someone’s saying early Cure weren’t goth at all.

Faith is a quintessentially gothic album, in the non-genre sense of the word.

Hm yeah it’s no masterpiece but it has a charm. It was Avary’s last film before being banged up for accidentally killing someone which lent the whole thing a grim gravitas. I do still love about 20 minutes of it but I know why it divides people. The bathtub suicide is still unbearable and one of the times i’ve come close to throwing up from seeing a film.

The Donovan, colours split screen made me feel joyous.

Robert Smith did a guest vocal on a song on Blink 182’s eponymous album :black_heart: it’s really great :black_heart:

The Cure did extremely strong opening tracks.

great song.

There’s a lot of good in 4:13 Dream. Like The Fountain, it’s one of those albums that’s just taken as “bad” without a lot of people even bothering with it.

Funny that… I was working in HMV in 2007 and used to backcomb my hair like Robert Smith and this skater kid used to lightheartedly tease me about my obsession with RS and during new release prep on a Sunday evening he put this album on and I blew his mind that this was a Cure song… had to show the album sleeve with the Robert Smith credit.

^Hoping BITT backs me up here, as incredible an opening as Plainsong is

A band that works just as well as a singles band and an album band. Find I have to be really in the mood for them, but when I am, hoooo boy. Robert Smith is one of the very best at getting his words down on paper for me, and the gravity of emotion he’s able to convey behind some of their songs is just staggering. A five, innit.

Nonsense! The interviewer was clearly being a bit embarrassing and Robert Smith was, rightly, embarrassed. Questions like ‘can i sit on the end of your guitar when you are playing?’ and suchlike…how are you supposed to answer a question like that?!

My favourite band :+1:

The run of albums from Three Imaginary Boys up to and including Wish is the best run of albums by any act ever for my money. That latter albums can be a bit patchy, but all still feature moments of absolute genius. There’s gold throughout the b-sides too - Fat Bob is just an absolute song machine.

Their live shows are always amazing too, and certainly…value for money. They always seem to genuinely enjoy playing live too, which is so infectious. New album soon please Bob…

EDIT: Has @midnightpunk not been in yet to tell us how they should have split up after Pornography?
