That is the only remotely interesting response I can muster to The Killers.

Probably a two but I’ve given them a three to counter some try-hards.

But is the counter try-hardism movement not in danger of itself trying too hard? Aren’t we all trying hard to be our very best selves? Are we human, or are we try-hard? I just don’t know anymore.

I’ve done this a lot in other threads, upping a 3 to a 4, or even a 4 to a 5, so fair enough. Feeling really bad about being called a try-hard now though. I guess it’s because I was in the second half of my twenties when they came along and they did nothing for me at all. Had I been 10 years younger I’d have probably liked them.

That stuff where he kept ragging on about The Bravery, a much better band, was the sort of tiresome thing I’ve seen quite a few people do on the “way up”, followed by the equally tedious thing of being magnanimous once you’ve pulled yourself up to where you want to be. I should give them a 1 just for that, but some of the singles are OK so 2 it is.

Flowers is definitely a weird and potentially not pleasant person. On the one hand I think that the Hot Fuss-era snideness to “rivals” has largely been put down youth and inexperience, as he later admitted semi-apologised for (they were also mega into Oasis so wouldn’t surprise me if they basically tried to replicate the latter’s pitiful approach to interviews)

However he definitely had/has a very unhealthy obsession with the American Dream and American Exceptionalism which veered pretty close to what flag-waving chuds like Drew Brees are saying today tbh.

Also he doesn’t seem to be able to let his fondness for Morrisey as a songwriter go even as recently as their Glasto headline spot last year.

I don’t think you have to hate morrissey as s songwriter just because he’s a racist twat that everyone hates. I’ve not stopped enjoying any of his music and don’t intend to. But I can’t say it’s something I readily like to admit in public.
