They were briefly one of my fav bands and I still adore Alligator but dont find myself going back to Boxer or High Violet as much as I thought I would but I loved them at the time. The other albums do little to nothing for me

  1. A band at the top of their game for a long time. Cant get on with the more recent albums

They were bad, great, and then OK. Probably deserve a 4.

Find them pretty dull.

Alligator is alright, boxer i couldnt get into and high violet i couldnt even finish.

Last album was a bit of a bum note, but the run before that’s probably never been matched.

There will be lots of weird replies from lonely little boys below…

Alligator over Boxer for me and I’m also gonna stand up for Sleep Well Beast which I personally rate more than High Violet and Trouble Will Find Me. 4

Also this is a gem off I am Easy to Find

Alligator/Boxer/High Violet is an excellent run of albums. Before and after does nothing for me though.

Haven’t liked their recent albums but the ones I love are ones I properly, properly love.

All about the drummer for me innit.

I dunno. Never been able to get any sort of enthusiasm for them but equally I don’t hate them enough to downvote them.

Might I suggest a 3 then?

A tough one for me. Some of the albums I absolutely adore, some are a bit weaker. I flip between Alligator or Boxer being my favourite, but every time I listen to one of the others, I enjoy it more and more.

Plus a couple of the times I’ve seen them they’ve been absolutely perfect, other times they’ve just not hit the mark.

Despite that, they’re probably still one of my favourite bands.

Think I’m going to have to go 5.

Used to be good and now they are boring. I’ll round up to a 4 because that 3 album run is really very good (quite like sad songs too tbh)

2 good albums (Sad Songs… and Alligator), diminishing returns ever since.

3 for me they lost it a bit when their original keyboard/multi instrumental guy buggered off after high violet in 2010ish.

I’ll always listen to a new album and I have seen them a lot but, since maybe 2014 or 2015 everytime I have seen them it has just felt the same gig. Actually didn’t see them when they toured I Am Easy To Find.

5 for me. High Violet is a genuinely perfect album in my eyes, top-10 of the 2010s level. Alligator and Boxer are not far behind, the former top-20 of the 2000s and the latter at least top-50.

None of the most recent three quite reach those heights but they are all very enjoyable and all have some amazing stuff on them. A best-of cherry-picked from those 3 albums would wipe the floor with a lot of 2010s indie I reckon.

Seen them a stupid amount of times live and they’ve never disappointed. Porto in 2014 has some of my most vivid gig-going memories.
