Really weird that REM sit in the top ten and the far better version languish in the 3s. There’s no justice.

Late to the party with my musings but what the heck.

Short response - love them 5/5

Longer waffle - one of the top 2 or 3 bands that mean the most to me. Discovered them shortly before Boxer came out and their sound just clicked with me. Despite them now being massive I feel like they’re ‘my band’ having seen them live about 15 times now working up through the growing venue sizes and introduced various friends to them over the years.

Boxer for me is my top album - possibly by anyone. It came out at the right time for me and there’s not a track on it I don’t love or know inside out. I remember subsequently being delighted when High violet came out and listening to it for the first time and thinking ‘they’ve nailed it again’, and then going through the same emotion with trouble will find me (and I thought the tour for that was their live peak too). To my tastes there’s no other band that’s put together a run of albums as strong as that.

Sleep well beast didn’t click for me in perhaps the way that everything else they’ve done has but it still has some belters (Though I also felt the live show for that tour was a bit of a step down from their usual highs as well) but I like what they’ve tried to do over the last couple of albums to mix things up a bit without changing their sound and veering too far from what makes them great, and think I am easy to find was stunning and the live show worked perfectly.

That’ll do for now. Have enjoyed the thread - obviously not everyone loves them as much as I do but some good chat and it wouldn’t be any fun if everyone felt the same (and they play big enough venues now as it is)!

Never made it beyond a couple of tracks on the first two albums but I reckon this ranking is entirely correct

On the one hand the score is disappointing considering some of the acts that have gotten 4+. But looking at the incredible acts surrounding them cant help but conclude it’s a decent score and evidence that they’re pissing off a healthy number of people, which isnt always a bad thing.

edit - Wrong thread

you thought it would be running away with it?

(it’s the weak link on HV imo)

Agree with this exactly.

To be fair, I’m not going to complain too much with this. I find the top 3 pretty interchangeable. Might have to give the last album a few more listens though. Just seems overlong atm and I lose interest.

Only if we can listen to The National during
