Never got him.

He can have a 1 not least because I consider him responsible for Puff Daddy

Iconic delivery and a fantastic debut album. Shame he left the world before he could show us more. LIFE AFTER DEATH showed us glimpses of what was to come in the future and it looked bright. The post hommonous shit since then can fuck off, everyone riding off of his and 2pacs death with that shit need to cut it out.

Hypnotize is so fucking good.

Also, any excuse to post this again: Rapping, deconstructed: The best rhymers of all time - YouTube. The bit about Biggie starts at 3.20 (can’t time stamp on mobile it seems).

Gone for a 4. @anon73286315 basically covers it.

I like him a lot, although I rarely reach for him - am gonna put Ready To Die on now for the first time in ages.

Also far less of an aggressor in the whole pointlessness of the feud, and an even more tragic waste of life as a result.

I think 4

There’s something so accessible about the way he raps that’s immediately appealing. He could verge into hardcore rap and speak to street nuances, but wrap it up in mildly melodic verses where he lays it out to you clearly step-by-step. Juicy is the ultimate example of this. You could play that song to a 5 year old kid or a 90 year old woman who never listens to that type of music but they would immediately understand what he is rapping about why that track is great.

3/5 from what I know, but I could know more. Will give a listen and more of a read up throughout the day

Think he played second fiddle to 2Pac while they were both still alive, but time and memory has been kinder to his work than it has 2Pac’s. I’m never going to love all that thug stuff, but he gets a 2 for being better than his West Coast rival.

This was a good and interesting, well put together Podcast series btw

Not keen. Quite bad General MIDI sounding production / beats, mediocre flow, never connected with his voice.

Never really got the fuss other than he’s peng.

A generous 2 / 5 norm-referenced against the 1 / 5 stuff that is patently worse in the polls so far

My assessment of him being less of an aggressor than 2Pac came almost entirely from that. Agree that it was really well done, and resisted the urge to be sensationalist.

Oh my lord.

Genuinely open to persuasion, please point me in the direction of something he’s done that is >mundane flow

5 from me. The best rapper I’ve heard, comes across so effortless

SUPER NINTENDO SEGA GENESIS

  1. Seems so effortless, an impressive list of tunes, but not one I ever reach for. Really reminds me of teenage barbecues, a simpler time

Do you like hip-hop?

I find it really hard to imagine thinking this.
