What I have heard is rubbish but I don’t know enough about them to give them a 1 and they are not actively offensive. Tempted to go for a 1 anyway as they are clearly worse than the Spice Girls, but on the other hand are they as bad as the RHCP? Probably not. 2.

Almost sent me tumbling down the road to terrible music taste as a yoot, had I not been saved by west coast gangster rap. Smash isn’t terrible, and ‘The Kids Aren’t Alright’ is a Belle and Sebastian-aping pop punk banger, but that’s not enough to save them from a 1/5.

Smash is a properly brilliant album (and, the greatest selling record released by an independent label of all time) otherwise a handful of good songs and after that a lot of dross. Currently a 3 but might up later to address the balance

I was once at a house party off my gourd on terrible chemicals when some bastard put The Kids Aren’t Alright on repeat and left. The place was too warm and I was pinned down both by the weight of drugs (and a very asleep person) slowly dehydrating for what felt like weeks. There were several other casualties in the room, all unconscious, and I couldn’t seem to speak loudly enough to wake anybody and save me from Dexter Hollands slightly rubbish attempt at social commentary. To this day I can’t hear that song without experiencing a really underwhelming flashback.

Anyway, Smash was fun but they’ve released some absolute guff and Original Prankster is among the worst cynical attempts to double dip on a novelty single ever so I can’t give them more than a 2. Every time I hover over the 3 I hear, “original yeah!” Can’t do it.
