Gone with an easy 5. Yes they only really have one move, but what a thrilling, fun, fucking brilliant move it is. Not getting into the ‘who invented punk’ debate but they were certainly at the forefront of it all. Covering all those 60s saccharine pop songs was an absolute stroke of genius imo. Also, Joey Ramone is the absolute coolest motherfucker ever to step on a stage.
Thrilling in small measures, too samey over a period of time. But a huge amount of fun to be had and there’s no disputing they were cool AF. I can’t vote for an album as I’ve never listened to anything other than the anthology and I absolutely love Pet Sematary so that was my song of choice.
As everyone says one great song but it’s an amazing one.
Also used their cover of Baby I love you for the first dance at my wedding, so they have that going for them.
Think the ‘only one thing’ criticism is a little unfair, some of their new wave influenced stuff like Brain Drain is great too. I Believe In Miracles is a weird eighties banger.
They also wrote my favourite Halloween AND Christmas songs.
Obviously the best pop punk band of all time too. So many incredible two minutes ragers.
Whether you’re a fan or not if you are ever in Berlin with half an hour to spare then pay the Ramones Museum a visit. Entry includes lifetime membership and a beer and you can absorb what an absolute cultural phenomenon they were with the added bonus of seeing a pair of Joey Ramone’s jeans presented with the same level of reverence as the Turin shroud.
It’s legendary, one of the iconic designs of the 20th century. As for the Primark thing, personally I reckon the day some Allstars wearing kid can reel off Chuck Taylor’s career stats is the day they get to mock someone for wearing a Motörhead T-shirt and not owning any of their records.
