I’d always had this idea in my head that the Ramones were a bunch of fun-loving, goofy, lighthearted guys but then I read DeeDee’s autobiography and fuck me it was depressing.

They are better than every band or artist on that list.

The score is too low.

How come Aretha Franklin is so high, great artist admittedly but was that polled shorty after her passing?

Beach Boys of Punk and much more. Their first 4 albums are flawless apart from maybe some of the production values on the 2nd album could have been better.

Sure they dipped in the late 80’s but they were legends already by then. The travesty is they weren’t widely successful by any measure and their songs weren’t used for TV commercials, etc until they were all dead.

I think it’s just the nature of the polls, Aretha isn’t the kind of act that will provoke much negativity, so very few people would have voted a low score to bring it down. It’s possible that none of the scores should be treated as scientific.

absolute highest scorers are all either indie bands, artists you grew up hearing your parents listen to or bjork. guess aretha’s in the 2nd category + she’s absolutely great and untouchable
