Had to think about this one a bit. The Stones have some songs that I absolutely love. Gimme Shelter, Tumbling Dice, Sympathy For The Devil, and more. But I just can’t help but find them more than a bit dull. I’m sure when they first came along they were pretty exciting but a lot of their stuff just seems so plodding and mundane to me. But the highs are still very high, and I saw them in 2005 at Isle of Wight and they were brilliant, especially considering they’re all over 150 years old. It’s a 3 from me.

The Stones were one of the first bands I ever heard. My Dad was a fan, had loads of their albums on cassette and so they were one of my introductions to music. Never really liked them though, couple of all right songs but their general sound really doesn’t do it for me. Sounds more like noise than music. 2/5.

I tell you honestly Clive, I would love it if Britney beat the Stones. I would absolutely love it!

Also I find all those stories about their tours really mawkish. Like were supposed to think they’re really down to earth and humble because they take a snooker table around the world with them and buy a pub lunch for 200 people every day.

What would Scorsese have done without gimme shelter

Never cared for them, I keep meaning to investigate them further but never seems like the time.

Watched (the absolutely transcendent) Amazing Grace last night and Mick Jagger rocking up on the second night to see what he could pilfer was irksome.

This is part of it for me too. I’m never going to commit to investing time in music that just bores me.

I’ll generally give anything a shot but the Rolling Stones songs I’ve heard have never made me want to dig into them further.

I’ll save you some time, it’s really not worth it.

You’re a good man Funkhouser.

Rolling Stones are, for me, in that category of really dry bands from the sixties like The Who that I have no idea why anyone listens to them. Fucking no idea why they’re so highly placed in the canon.

Absolutely. Give me The Stones over The Who any day though. The fucking Who.
