Were you laying down? If not i imagine theyd be kinda dull.
They are āfineā
Meh out of 5
Clearly not changed many lives ITT
One of the few bands my sister and i have in common. Lots of fond memories and the first three albums are great. Was also at that Reading.

@Funkhouser Not that itāll particularly matter to the poll but isnāt āThe Wormās Heartā an album in its own right? Itās an interesting concept and far better as an album than it should be.
Really like the first two records and Chutes Too Narrow in particular is brilliant. Donāt think anybody has made a better indie guitar pop album - itās pretty much perfect.
Their album from when they were called Flake Music is brilliant too - better than anything else they did bar CTN
Wincing The Night Away is a 10/10 record
My olā noggin is playing tricks on me, thatās what!
Gone with a 4 out of 5. I really like them. Chutes Too Narrow is flawless, thereās some truly great stuff on Oh Inverted World and Wincing The Night Away, plus a handful of really catchy indiepop gems over the subsequent albums.
I too saw them at Reading, but in 2004 so couldnāt lay down in the sun because it was very rainy that year and they were in the āCarling Tentā.
I also stood on James Mercerās foot when they headlined EOTR. We were hanging out on that āgin balconyā that Fever Tree had set up. True story.
Think Iām going to have a Shins day.
Yeah I wasnāt sure whether to put it in tbh, it wasnāt listed as itās own entity on Wiki so I left it off but should be in there really.
Theyārea bit dull and not that great but I sure spent a lot of time with those first two albums. I go back though and am bored pretty quickly.
Ok I guess
Not heard much by them but looking forward to some shin beef
For a time around wincing the night away I was a pretty big fan boy. Love Mercerās voice and thought his lyrics were pretty interesting at the time, but what a huuuuuge drop off to port of morrow. I couldnāt believe how bad it was particularly with the likes of Janet Weiss involved.
Iāve gone with a 4 for the good times.
Caring is Creepy would have an outside chance of sneaking into my top ten of all time I think. Just a perfect song.
Bit surprised by the tepid reaction to them so far, maybe another example of a band where if theyād stopped after their 3rd theyād be held in higher esteem. Iām glad they stuck around, if for nothing else than when they came back for the first time in years at EOTR which was just a lovely evening.
4 or generous 5.
I liked their Christmas song cover versions. Kinda from an indie doldrums period for me so I donāt know much about them but 3/5 feels right.
Think those first two are pretty timeless indie pop albums. Gently eclectic, great songwriting, short and sweet. Thereās little truly exceptional on there but little to fault either. Think they have and will outlive a lot of their contemporaries. Third album scratches an itch if you need more Shins (and has a couple of really great songs), ārecentā material is a bit shite. Generous 4/5 for those two LPs, which I think will get the odd spin forever, and their best songs.
5/5
Might do a sentimental naff post later.
Discovered them when I was 14 I think. Probably did change my life a bit. And no, I donāt care for fucking Garden State.
First two albums are perfect. Everything after is OK.
I think they are good.
Saw them a few years back doing a gig in Shibuya on the last night of my trip to Japan and it was excellent.
Would like them to bring the Oh Inverted World tour over here too:
I am also a fan of Garden State. I like it, especially the scene with The Only Living Boy In New York.
Agree with the consensus that the first three albums are good, though I thought the wormās heart was so bad it put me off hearing his voice again. I donāt ever have the inclination to listen to them anymore, which is sad because I have some nice memories associated with them. 3 from me.
