I get that their debut isn’t the best album of all-time yet it did stand out a lot back in '89. Thinking of comparisons it’s a little like if The Beatles had dropped Revolver as their first album, people would sit up and take notice, and they did.
When Fool’s Gold followed you really did wonder, momentarily, if we had that generations Beatles on our hands, which time tells us we didn’t, but in those moments, they seemed steeped in glory and wore it well. Such a confident debut album and as you point out correctly the musicianship was top drawer.
