Yeah I’m not a fan but i get why people like to sing along to them. I reckon Freddie’s clear annunciation explains a lot of their popularity.

I’m quite partial to some silly overblown music at times just of a different type and I’d never get offended if people thought it was silly and bombastic.

Weird innit. Binned off all my Ryan Adams records soon as that story broke, still and got and listen to Led Zep. I guess somehow the ‘distance’ means I separate the art from the artist, though it’s not really a conscious decision.

Young Man’s Blues – White men singing the blues again, something I am deathly tired of. Guitar is a bit more interesting than I thought it would be but why is it five minutes long? Jesus, Daltrey, fuck off whinging.

‘Substitute’ – This is a good pop song, genuinely much better than I thought.

‘Summertime Blues’ – Ah, I can see where Robert Pollard got his influences from. This is a bad, bad rendition of this song though. I’ve heard bar bands give tighter, more thrilling renditions of it. Why is it so lumpen for a three minute song?

‘Shakin’ All Over’ – This is on an album. That some people think is one of the best live albums ever. What.

‘My Generation – Medley’ – This is toss. Why is there eight minutes left? What’s the next song called? ‘Magic Bus’? Get fucked.

‘Magic Bus’ – This is some lads shouting about a bus over the Bo Diddley beat.

It’s over! Thank fuck. I accidentally heard ‘Happy Jack’ too and that is a bad song as well.

Live At Leeds so, as shit as I’d remembered it, even though I thought ‘Substitute’ was actually really good.

The only good thing about My Generation is that it’s about two minutes long. A medley can fuuuuuuuck off.

haha, enjoyed this, thanks for listening. Magic Bus is a really good song despite the stupid title, glad you found some appreciation for Substitute, and yes, Happy Jack is a terrible song. I think part of the appeal is the raw energy they capture on this, rather than the songs themselves, given it was as they were about to record Tommy its quite an interesting snapshot of a band entering their peak and shedding off their original era as it were.

Bandmembers are awful, lots of dross but their great songs are really really ingrained for a certain sort of guitar/rock person, that person being quite well-represented on DiS. (I include myself in that group.)

I mean Immigrant Song in that final sequence of Thor Ragnarok is absolutely one of the great joinings of film and music.

I mean Queen are very very specific though aren’t they? Like they’re not Oasis, just another rock band or something, they had a sound they did and they were really the only guys who did that sound in that way, so I think it’s fair that they are very very loved by some people.

FWIW I am not really a Queen fan but I think they’ve been instrumental in elevating some films. I absolutely love Flash Gordon but I’m not sure I would without that soundtrack they did. I think Highlander is pretty trash but, again, their work on the soundtrack is something that elevates it above completely pointless for me…and of course Wayne’s World and Shaun of the Dead both have one of their best scenes revolving around Queen.
