Toyed with abstaining because I’ve never had any interest in them and never listened to one of their albums all the way through, but then you look at that list of singles and realise that you know nearly all of them and they are all pretty great.

They’ll never really be for me (the epitomise a sort of butch, stonewashed denim rockism that does nothing for me) but I don’t think I can give less than a 3 for a band that have released that many great singles.

My formative years were peak Britpop and like many who grew up listening to Oasis, Blur, Pulp in the charta my first forays outside of what was on Radio 1 week in week out was classic 60s stuff, including a Who Best Of which I played a lot as a teenager. Great singles on it, but didn’t really rate the albums I heard (Who’s Next and Tommy; Live at Leeds was fine).

Haven’t actively listened to them for probably 15 years minimum, but 3/5 feels feels fair. I don’t really know anything about them other than the book writing defence, maybe I’d score them lower if I knew what it was that drives so much vitriol, but just not really interested enough to read up.
