My text-based impersonation of the best bit of The Boys Are Back In Town, c. 2mins into this

London is a big town.

Help me out here early crew - genuinely only ever heard of them in context of what I assumed was their only hit, which was on my Gladiators soundtrack cassette.

What should I do? This is in my order of my inclination.

  • Vote on basis of The Boys Are Back In Town
  • Abstain
  • Listen to some of their other work

I need some more information: do you like The Boys Are Back In Town?

Listen to any of the singles compilations and Live & Dangerous.

We had Cher last?

It’s a 4 from me btw. Brilliant singles band who never quite made the record they probably should have but clearly win best live album of all time. Dancing In The Moonlight, Jailbreak, Waiting For An Alibi and TBABIT are all classics and despite never wanting to hear Whiskey In The Jar ever again (ran an Irish bar for 6 years, that’ll kill it for you) it’s still fucking great. Not quite in that top tier for me, but close.

I always have to play Jailbreak to work out which one is in my head when I say the name. I like both theirs and AC/DC’s immensely so it’s generally a toss up.

Of course, being me, I can easily have Shellac’s AC/DC cover in my head too.

3/5. Don’t really listen to them anymore, but Live and Dangerous is absolutely fantastic

Great Band! Great songs with that twin guitar sound. I’ve always thought that Phil was a great bass player especially when you are singing at the same time,Not easy. Difficult to choose a favourite song but I’ve gone for the one everyone knows from the Magners advert! it’s a 5 from me.
Did you know that despite being a friend of Bob Geldof and despite Midge Ure being a one time member of Thin Lizzy neither thought to invite Phil to reform Thin Lizzy for Live Aid. Apparently it deeply saddened Phil. He died 6 months later. There’s a statue of Phil in Dublin. How wonderful that it’s a decent proper statue of a black man and a legend.

Love this band, they have many bangers but I will always love Boys are Back because of this

Best live/not live album ever is enough to get a 5 for sure. Never really explored beyond that album to be honest but never felt the need to. Perhaps that will now change…

and for that reason i’ll be watching the thread for some recs.

The Dancing in the Moonlight into Massacre bit is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good on Live and Dangerous…
